Special Dispatch to the New-York Times. CHARESTON, Monday, April 30. Upon the adoption of the Minority Platform, the delegations from Alabama, Louisiana, South Carolina, Mississippi, Texas, Arkansas and Florida, embodying 37 1/2 votes, retired from the Convention, after filing with the Clerk protests which had evidently been prepared with great care in advance.

I noticed the entry about what I believe is the first Empire of Japan ambassador to the US. The entourage sailed across the Pacific to San Francisco and spent time there. Then the group sailed to Panama to cross the Isthamus and catch another ship to DC.

Dems would have had their nom in April if it wasn’t for that fire-eater thing. Similar to how we were supposed to have it this year. Incumbent party nominates, other party nominates the following month. (July and Aug was the original plan for 2020.) The longer campaign season in 1860 may be due to our primary season, not a thing in 1860.
