AMC, the USs largest cinema chain, has said it will refuse to show movies released by Hollywood studio Universal. The latter had just declared it would continue to release films simultaneously via cinemas and streaming, after the coronavirus pandemic restrictions are lifted.
AMCs move came in a letter from its CEO Adam Aron to Universal chair Donna Langley, published in Deadline, in which he wrote: We want to be absolutely clear AMC believes that with this proposed action to go to the home and theatres simultaneously, Universal is breaking the business model and dealings between our two companies.
Aron added: Universals unilateral actions and intentions have left us with no choice. Therefore, effectively immediately AMC will no longer play any Universal movies in any of our theatres in the United States, Europe or the Middle East.

AMC is a Chinese owned operation now. F them.
Do you have any documentation for that or is it just gossip? I would like to pass it on, but I need documentation to do so. Not that it isn’t true, it probably is. But can you give me a source?
AMC, China's largest cinema chain...
Great point!
I have a pretty nice setup but it's still not the same as going to a real movie theater. It's like going to a real football game instead of just watching it on TV. It's just not the same experience. The thing that keeps me from going to a movie very often is not the theater but that so many movies are of the "celebrate perversity" kind.
My last movie theatre experience was in 1997 - Wife and I took our son to see The Phantom Menace.
AMC is china owned.
Let's see now; Universal Studios has a product (movies) that the consumer wants, the middleman (AMC Theaters) won't deliver it (boycott), Universal Studios cuts out the middleman and delivers the product directly to the consumer. Hmmm...good luck your bankruptcy AMC Theaters.
Exactly, the number of theaters will decline as people find viewing at home more convenient and a more pleasant environment.
Yea one thing you will NEVER see me doing is sitting in a AMC theater and/or eating a Smithfield hotdog.
Yep. Boycott AMC.
Yes it’s true. Do your own research. Might take 5 minutes.
Good one.
They will make it up in digital piracy of the movies they show.
I’m lost on that. What do you mean?
“And people have some pretty sweet TVs in the living room now with just as nice audio set ups.”
Plus you can get past second base at home much easier.
AMC Theaters was acquired by Wanda Group, a Chinese conglomerate headquartered in Dalian, in May 2012. Wanda Group paid $2.6 billion to acquire AMC Theatres’ 5,048 screens in 347 theaters in the U.S. and Canada.[24] The deal was finalized on September 4, 2012.[25] The acquisition made Wanda the world’s largest cinema chain
