The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, youll be solving them all within a few days. If youre stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hals Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please dont put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
ITS HARD TO LEAD A CAVALRY CHARGE IF YOU THINK YOU LOOK FUNNY ON A HORSE. ADLAI STEVENSON
A bit hard to get started, until I got the tenth word, and the author.
About 4 minutes.
Hard for me this morning. Kept playing around with small letters words and saw something in author. Correct guess of author led to solution.
Slow start for me this morning, first name of the author was the key for me, then I solved it in a flash.
2 min. tried to do it without letter frequency.
Started over; saw the double letters at the first word; grammatically, that gave me the 2nd and 4 words and off to the races.
Very wise.
Pretty easy. Guessed the first two words.
Miraculously, I looked at the word YDUDUCDY, and just... knew it. Somehow. That’s a great quote!
Whew.......
Kind of tricky with the double letters spaced out like that.
Once the vowels fit in, fairly easy.....
Thanks for sharing nikos1121 it IS most helpful....
I was stumped right from the start on this one. Even used Hal, and his letter counter, and still no help. So, I left it...
Came back to it a few hours later, but this time printed it out on paper, like I usually do, started with the first word. The last two letters, are what you think, but once I figured out the 2nd letter of the word, it opened up that 10th word, and it was a steady “up hill” climb from there, till I made it to the top.
Ok, that is a REALLY tangential clue. If I had posted a pic of Fess Parker it would have been just as out there.
See one, do one, teach one.
Haha. Aww come on, those are great clues. You have to be up there in years, but they give you a clue to word number 10, don’t you think?
Ok. I finally solved it. But why the picture of Ed Ames?
