When Allen Hargrove leaves his Brooklyn apartment to get groceries, he does so with an underlying feeling of worry. It’s not just the coronavirus pandemic: As a black man, he fears he could draw unwanted attention by wearing a mask in public.
“I have a sense of anxiety wearing the mask,” said Mr. Hargrove, 33, who described himself as having a “football build,” at 220 pounds. “It makes me more aware of how I’m being perceived.”

I’d say if that occurs its because there will be some reasons to consider them as something other than customers.
For example, the flash mobs that burst into stores and loot them, are not white people mobs.
The people who burn down their neighborhoods are not whites.
Its their reputations to ruin, not anyone elses’ fault.

There’s a reason Jesse Jackson said this in 1993: “There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery. Then I look around and see someone white and feel relieved.”
Maybe law-abiding honest black people can use this pandemic to start reclaiming their reputation.
Unless they walk around waving a gun with their pants around their knees, I do not think they should worry any more than any other person.

First, COVID-19 was racist (never mind the underlying health of the individuals impacted). Then, the response to COVID-19 with masks is racist (never mind everyone is wearing them, when required). Next, we’ll hear how the resulting job losses are racist.

How’s come we’re treated to his racial persuasion right off the bat? If he had a gun, knife, spiked boots, or unsheathed genitalia, there’d be no trace of his chosen race, even in the BOLO.
Perhaps if the NYPD shot a couple of black men for being unmasked, that might lessen his anxiety.
When wont black people feel racial profiled? Have to have a photo id for voting? Racial Profiling! Wear a mask? Racial profile. Walking around a rich neighborhood in a hoodie wacked on on drank at 3:30 in the morning? Racial profiling.

Well it seems like you perceive yourself as not a "big man" but Urkel with a personality disorder.
There is at least one black man that I know of who is making a fashion statement wearing the most flamboyant masks he can find. No blue, white, or black for this man, and I think he has a good approach here.
Because that's the default position when they're too lazy to do actual investigative journalism. Ride on the wave of mindless Non Player Character the majority wallows in while being blameless for what they write.
