Anil Subba, a Nepali Uber driver from Jackson Heights, Queens, died just hours after doctors at Elmhurst Hospital thought he might be strong enough to be removed from a ventilator.
In the nearby Corona neighborhood, Edison Forero, 44, a restaurant worker from Colombia, was still burning with fever when his housemate demanded he leave his rented room, he said.
Not far away in Jackson Heights, Raziah Begum, a widow and nanny from Bangladesh, worries she will be ill soon. Two of her three roommates already have the symptoms of Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Everyone in the apartment is jobless, and they eat one meal a day, she said.
We are so hungry, but I am more terrified that I will get sick, said Ms. Begum, 53, who has diabetes and high blood pressure.

wash your hands often. don’t cough on people. wear clean clothes and bathe daily. those few things seem to be simple things that make a huge difference, but not all people living in our country think they are important, or even necessary.
When was NY ever great?
Ok you need to stop peddling this fake little tidbit
Ok this vent statement from
You is totally irresponsible and is not with a single shred of truth. Please site tour source for such an outrageous claim.
Your kidding, right? Please tell me your not dispensing medical advice that is first of all wrong and secondly without a license.
“...terrified that I will get sick.”
I don’t want to be a bad person, but I chuckle a little reading that. I work with a few obese, African American ladies with assortment of diabetes, hypertension, who make no effort whatsoever to improve their health, or throughout their lives avoided bad habits hastening their likely early death.
But now so concerned with masks, gloves, saniwipes to avoid getting “sick”.
They usually put you on a ventilator when in the docs opinion you gonna die in a few minutes to hours.
I know someone who got pneumonia...was in a coma for 9 days..and a vent..survived...died 2 years later of heart attack.
But if your lung tissue is ravaged...the vent won’t save ya.
Every el Salvadoran I know refers to el Salvador as "my country.'
Welders, car mechanic, metal scrap yard workers, restaurant owners.
One manager of a welding shop told me his brother went to school for welding in California.
I said, "How could he do that? He doesn't speak English."
The answer, "Oh, when you're in California, it's the same as being in your own country."
What did they have in common? They were all residents of the Agenda 21/30 stack and pack Progressive Plantation Ghetto.
That's coming from the medical community.
No its really not. Its coming from
Some blogs who are doctors and if their mortality id 90% they need to practice something else. But its not Intensivists saying this. Every one of my colleagues knows when and how to use a vent with far better than a 10% survival rate and the statement they being on a vent means you wont be alive in a year is just plain BS
I grew up in south east Queens in the late 60s and early 70s. A small-town vibe even though its part of NYC. The diversity on my street was a Jewish family. Everyone spoke English. I drove through my old neighborhood a few years ago on a trip to see family in Nassau. Its a diverse shit-hole now.
Well at least Trump won Suffolk county, and he came close in Nassau county.....he’ll do better this November....I GUARANTEE IT!
Hope you are right mate!
I am not dispensing medical advise. I am quoting doctors and medical reports that have numbers like, patients with corona virus on ventilators have a 60% mortality rate. And in the UK one study has the mortality rate at 80% on ventilators. Interestingly, a doctor and his nurse wife who both had signed medical documents waving the use of ventilators. See...

This couple who are also in the healthcare system also refused to be put on a ventilator. His reasoning was that he has rarely seen it successfully work. So he refused the doctors suggestions.

There is NO study with corona virus that proves efficacy using a ventilator. The use of a ventilator is equivalent to the doctor saying, well thats all I can do. Everyone loves to point to the lack of research here and there. But there is no research that suggests ventilators improve anything. There are lots of studies that prove that your mortality rate is less than 50-50 when placed on a ventilator.
NPtR is hardly a valid source. I assure you as a board certified critical care physician the ventilator wean were is far better than 50%. This is propaganda. The other poster said 90% then 60% in America. If you want to be frightened fine. Your right. But do not spread misinformation.
In the proper hands separation from mechanical ventilation in critical illness is the norm not the exception.
