I retired 'bout 14 years ago and we moved to a small town in Texas. Met an older couple at the local mall and they got me into mall walking. Actually became very good friends with them and even went on several cruises together. But back to walking. I got into a solid routine of walking 2 miles a day in the mall five times a week. Seems like I've been doing it forever.
Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the mall closed about 6 weeks ago give or take and I stopped walking. Don't know why but I never tried walking here in the retirement community which actually is a bit hilly. And the point of this entry is that over the last few weeks I have felt a noticeable change. Loss of energy, tired after doing yard work and a bit bit of flabbyness. So its obvious to me that walking really makes a difference in ones health. Besides other routines but the walking did/does make a difference.
So the mall is still closed but as I said we live in a bit of a hilly community and that is because the Guadalupe river is right below us. And the town has a wide sidewalk that runs for 4 or more miles along side of it. And... yes, I've had this first class bike for quite a long time and finally kicked my own butt. I'm trying to get into riding at least 4 times a week. We're located in the middle of the 4 miles so I ride out to one end and back which makes it a 4 mile ride. But I'll be back to walking when this crap is over.
So get a softball game going with your buddies in someones back yard.....where there’s a will there are always options.
If a store is closed you find another open, if the park is closed go to another as you all can drive.
I needed ant traps, because I’m at risk I chose a store with hardly any traffic. People who are afraid just need to think through where they go and wear their masks and gloves..and stay away from peple when in the stores.
There’s lots of options in this lockdown people just want things as they were.
You’ve discovered venturing!...I walk too and when I began I took various routes around town to see what works good for me....discovering areas I wasn’t familar with was neat. found alley ways and short cuts. I now never take the same route which is actually safer when you think about it.
The first 13 years of our 34 year California journey was in Santa Barbara. In fact if we were still in Santa Barbara when retirement came we may not have left.
Did you click the url at the beginning of my entry. If not you may or may not want to. But it is about beauty. Be flexible:<))))
Don't stop walking because the mall is closed.Walk outside and try to time them to avoid rain, heat, etc. That's what I'm doing.
The more you move (within reason) the better you will feel, keep at it!

Will do. 77 here.
And the pictures do remind me. Thanks.
Laps of the mall parking area might give you the distance you crave.
Be sure your police department is not one of those supplied with Chinese drones, to more readily spy on you where patrol cars can't see.
I’ve done both at various times. I used to ride a bike about 10 miles a day.
Now I walk the neighborhood streets for about 45 minutes at a military pace.
Walking gives a little more upper body movement via swinging arms. But
it never hurts to exercise within you capabilities as life goes on.
Take care

In fact I’ve seen other walkers doing just that. I’m going to stay on the bike til it opens back up.
Our police aren’t enforcing anything I’m aware of.....virus isn’t remotely thick here.
Guys next door had friends over with a pit fire ta boot. People here tend to mind there own business.
Make Hydroxychloquine with Zinc over the counter and be done with it.
I hadn’t read your essay about beauty...definitely spot-on — and you wrote that FIFTEEN years ago. It’s so much worse today. We bought a second home in North Idaho to get away from the insanity that is politics in CA, but we didn’t sell our CA home. I sure do enjoy coming back to CA for the natural beauty. There’s nowhere else like it in the world. I just have to hold my nose so often.

this drawn out lockdown is bad for physical health and mental health.
Reduced mobility.
Increased food intake.
Increased alcohol and drug intake.
Depression.
Domestic disputes and violence.
Recycled air.
ENOUGH
They already want to play this game again come the fall. Better open things sooner than later or this will just be a shutdown into the 2nd quarter of 2021.
Test people
And the Left removed penalties for homosexuals who knowingly spread AIDS without disclosing their status.
This isn’t about health.
How is your life endangered by his free range roaming if you continue to live sheltered at home for the rest of the year?
I have a large mall near my home but I only go there to walk when it's pouring rain or especially cold outside. I do have treadmills at my condo community fitness center but that's utter torture, especially as somebody next to me will usually insist on having cable news on the wall mounted television screen in front of the treadmills.
So walking outside is how I do it. I typically go outside my condo community as otherwise I will get stopped often by fellow residents wanting to say hello and talk. There are plenty of leafy suburban neighborhoods around my area and those are my favorite places to walk. I map out routes in my car ahead of time and then park my car and walk it. It's fun to explore the community that way and I get to check out the landscaping, the architecture and observe other characteristics of that particular neighborhood. Some neighborhoods I would never go a second time to but there are some favorites that I return to again and again. I never get bored.
I go "off-road" as well and explore the local hiking trails but usually in the fall and winter. Springs tend to be too muddy and Summers are too buggy.
Now that is a bit of coincidence!!!! In ‘81 the company and I had a falling out. Went to work in Kansas City but bought a house in Lee Summit, Missouri across the river. Anyway in ‘82 got a call from Santa Barbara and they told me to come back if possible. And of course,,,,,,,,,,, we had kept the house in SB and was renting it out. Going back was no problem.

Oh, and I was a flight instructor for Santa Barbara Aviation and the UCSB flying club. Really did see a lot.

In post 9, I was trying to respond only to a statement I saw as too broad, not to much else, and Im not sure how your question pertains to that, but to answer it: I dont see that it is if he is contagion free, and if he isn’t, it still wouldn’t be unless he and others spread contagion to the point organized society is destroyed.
The problem is still where to draw the lines to maintain an acceptable balance between interests.
