Japan Mayor Under Fire for 'Women Dawdle at Shops' Remark

The mayor of Japan's Osaka has come under fire for suggesting men should do grocery shopping during the coronavirus outbreak because women are indecisive and "take a long time".

Japan is under a state of emergency over the pandemic, and residents in some areas have been asked to shop less frequently and only send one family member out to get supplies to limit contact.

Osaka Mayor Ichiro Matsui told reporters on Thursday (Apr 23) that men should be entrusted with grocery runs because women "take a long time as they browse around and hesitate about this and that", Kyodo news agency reported.

"Men can snap up things they are told (to buy) and go, so I think it's good that they go shopping, avoiding human contact," the 56-year-old added.

When challenged by a reporter, he acknowledged his remarks might be viewed as out-of-touch, but said they were true in his family.

But online he was roundly condemned, with one Twitter user accusing him of being "disrespectful to women and men".

Another dubbed his comment "full of prejudice against women", adding "there are indecisive men and nimble and sharp women".

Third marriage and I have two daughters both adults. My experience says there’s nothing inaccurate about that story. Watched my first wife spend 20 minutes looking at refrigerator magnets, she didn’t buy any. My second wife could spend an hour trying on Scrubs, her clothes had to be perfect. My third wife has a passion for grocery stores and can spend a couple of hours walking around.
I keep my damn mouth shut, not only do I eat well there’s zero complaints about my hunting and fishing trips. My conclusion is it’s either a woman thing or it might just be a Nurse thing since all the above mentioned are/were in the medical field.

The guy’s a riot. Anyone who’s seen me ‘shop’ knows the mayor is RIGHT. Long before Coronavirus, I went in, got my stuff, and got out, and fast. That simple.

It depends on the store. Mr. Inspectorette could spend all kinds of time at Lowe’s, Home Depot, or Harbor Freight, but would start getting antsy after 10 minutes at JoAnn’s Fabrics.

Two things...

The Female would also claim she “saved” hundreds of dollars.

There is no JC Penny. It’s JC Penney. But it’s a great graphic regardless
