Appearing recently on BBC Radio Live, Melinda Gates, co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, revealed she and her husband stored food in their basement years ago in anticipation of a pandemic.

EMMA BARRETT: In terms of your own — again, just to talk about you and Bill for being so familiar with this — had you made any preparations? I was very struck by when I rewatched Bill’s talk from 2015, he rolled that barrel onto the stage and said, “When I was growing up, nuclear was kind of the threat, everyone was very worried about bombs and all sorts of threats like that, and we had this barrel in our basement where we’d have to go and eat out of it if we went in.” Had you done preparation in your own lives?
MELINDA GATES: We had done some preparation, yes.
BARRETT: What does the mean in terms of — because we had issues here in the UK with people panic shopping — how does a couple like you, who has this insight, how do you get prepared for that?
GATES: A number of years ago, we talked about, “What if there wasn’t clean water? What if there wasn’t enough food? Where might we go? What might we do as a family?” So, I think we should leave those preparations to ourselves.

so Emma seems to say Bill and Linda had advance knowing?
“So, I think we should leave those preparations to ourselves.”
Melinda says it’s individuals choice - which I guess is easier if you have advance knowing of what sort of threats/events may happen - or you are so rich you can stock up and prepare for any and every thing - except how to reply to Jesus if you have not accepted Him and don’t get right with Him before you die.
I’m sure we will survive.
I don’t blame them for thinking this way.
People ought to prep and have stores of food and supplies stocked away.
I blame them for a hell of a lot of other things, but not being prepared for shortages.
When Bill and Melinda Gates do it it’s called being prepared. When regular folks do it it’s called hoarding and the police come knocking on your door.
They calculate too far
So have been preppers.
I’m not so interested in the food he has stored away, even though I’m sure it’s the finest available. I’m more curious about his defensive preparations both there and at his bug out location, plus what’s on his plane and yacht. I imagine he could even have a couple of F-35s stashed away and a Capt. Nemo sub somewhere.
I am sure Bill and Melinda are not digging into their freeze dried prep food. Food from Jimmy Johns sub sandwiches to Daniel’s Broiler’s 30 oz bone in rib eye (and all of the extras) can be delivered to their Lake Washington lakefront house in minutes.
Gates ain’t no dummy. I was also already stocked up.
Prepping is buying deep before an emergency which affects no one else’s ability to get what they need.
Hoarding is over-buying during an emergency which results in shortages whereby others cannot get the basics they need which leads to more panic buying.
I’m no fan of Gates but prepping is a good thing and the more people who learn that the better for everyone.
Get into that basement and start chowin down and stop trying to control the rest of the world.
I don’t see a problem with this either. People have been prepping for many years; why wouldn’t the wealthy also take some basic precautions like storing 25 year dehydrated meals. I have some too. Not a lot really; just enough to get me by for maybe a month.
This is fake news. Preppers have been doing this for years, I don’t see any character attacks on them for having foresight in being prepared for such events as what we’re going through now.
