The commandant of the Marine Corps has banned the public display of the Confederate battle flag, a symbol that he said had the power to inflame division.

I am a unionist by heart. Born in a state created during the war to oppose slavery. If you are in the US military you have no business flying a rebel flag. Seems like treason to me.
That being said. I support the right to leave the union under the principles stated by Jefferson in the declaration.
“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.’ US Constitution Art. III sec. 3
Sorry FRiend, they were absolutely guilty of treason.
“Agreed. I know of no other situation where enemy flags are allowed to be displayed on US military bases.”

You mean like the ship named after Che?
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. US Constitution Art. III sec. 3
Further: “No person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.”
Call your first two witnesses.
What you say is essentially true and correct. I would like to elaborate further:
From the text Of Chief Justice Salmon Chase, writing for the majority, “There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, (of membership in the union) except through revolution or through consent of the States.”
Note the two exceptions. He left unstated what the action might be with regard to treason, because a bond issue and not a charge of treason was before the court. He still allowed for the possibility of secession with the consent of the other states.
My point was as regards the matter of treason charges. It certainly can be implied, but that matter has not yet been decided by the Supreme Court. The constitution of enumerated powers does not explicitly forbid it.
I don't ever remember hearing this guy's name mentioned when Obama was undermining the Marine Corps. Where was he then?
I'll tell you: seeking higher and higher rank so that one day he would have high rank and could ban parts of American history.
The Marines General officer Corps is full of pussies and has been for at least a decade. Marines deserve better then these politically correct lgbtq globalist pandering jerks.
If you are in the US military the rainbow fag is now your flag.
Another step towards Pussifying the US Military.
Once the fags, females, femmes, cross dressers, snowflakes etal make up the majority of the Military as all the virile young men decide on another path, and they manage to categorically disarm the public, the Roman Empire will relive itself and the once greatest country/economy in the World will plunge deeper into the depths.
Like Abe Lincoln & then Khrushchev once said, ‘America will destroy itself from within’.
Or, POGO
We have met the enemy and he is US.
There were close to 30 million people living in loyalist states. I don’t think we would have had trouble finding witnesses. Further, all but a handful of former rebel officers and government officials applied for and were granted pardons. You don’t get a pardon for not doing anything wrong. Most of these pardons specified treason and or rebellion as the crimes being forgiven. And the pardons were conditional on the former rebels making an oath of allegiance to the United States and vowing never again to bear arms against the US or aid her enemies.
The problem is that these same people who want to ban such flags in the military want everyone else to ban them as well, in every state. Mississippi has come under the gun in recent years for the element in their state flag which emulates the Confederate Battle Flag.
No, its not just about the military. Its about hatred for a culture.
I always laugh at these people pontificating about warships named after Confederate generals, bases named after Confederates, and declaring them to be treasonous enemies. In World War II our first tank was the Lee tank. Just one example.
They always forget one thing. The actual guys who shot at each other got along famously in later years. In the early 1900s, they held reunions at places like Gettysburg. They re-enacted Pickett’s Charge, only at the rock wall, the advancing Confederates were met with handshakes and drinks. Every night they would “raid” each other’s camps and have barbecue.
But somehow, these childish people today feel they have license to be more Angry than the men who were actually there in the battle. Ridiculous effing ridiculous.
I’ve just finished reading a lengthy biography of Grant.
He certainly had tremendous respect for the opposition and worked hard to ensure they weren’t classified as war criminals.
Exactly. General Grant is one of our most underrated presidents. And intrinsically moral good decent man. Some people in his administration were corrupt, but he was not. And he tried as hard as anyone could to heal the nation.
LOL, I was born in Wisconsin, both parents families from upstate NY, descended from Union soldier stock.
I bought it the day after Nimrata Rhandawa decided to start erasing American history.
I have lived in Virginia for most of my adult life amongst many Civil War battlefields and have donated significantly for their preservation and take erasure of history personally.
Funny thing is, nobody knows what a real Confederate flag looks like.
This Marine vet (51-57) calls the Commandants decision disgraceful!
It has never been about "flying" the Confederate flag on a base... It's about thought control an PC by outlawing troops from having personal images or flags on their cars, trucks, or chest... All things protected by the First Amendment...
You love police state rules so much why not move to Cuba?
Perhaps this guy can be your first witness.
August 9, 1960
Dear Dr. Scott:
Respecting your August 1 inquiry calling attention to my often expressed admiration for General Robert E. Lee, I would say, first, that we need to understand that at the time of the War between the States the issue of secession had remained unresolved for more than 70 years. Men of probity, character, public standing and unquestioned loyalty, both North and South, had disagreed over this issue as a matter of principle from the day our Constitution was adopted.
General Robert E. Lee was, in my estimation, one of the supremely gifted men produced by our Nation. He believed unswervingly in the Constitutional validity of his cause which until 1865 was still an arguable question in America; he was a poised and inspiring leader, true to the high trust reposed in him by millions of his fellow citizens; he was thoughtful yet demanding of his officers and men, forbearing with captured enemies but ingenious, unrelenting and personally courageous in battle, and never disheartened by a reverse or obstacle. Through all his many trials, he remained selfless almost to a fault and unfailing in his faith in God. Taken altogether, he was noble as a leader and as a man, and unsullied as I read the pages of our history.
From deep conviction, I simply say this: a nation of men of Lees calibre would be unconquerable in spirit and soul. Indeed, to the degree that present-day American youth will strive to emulate his rare qualities, including his devotion to this land as revealed in his painstaking efforts to help heal the Nations wounds once the bitter struggle was over, we, in our own time of danger in a divided world, will be strengthened and our love of freedom sustained.
Such are the reasons that I proudly display the picture of this great American on my office wall.
Sincerely,
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Nikki Haley will be so proud of him.
