llinois Democrats are demanding $41 billion from the federal government for coronavirus relief, including $10 billion for Illinois's cash-strapped and underfunded public pension plan. The most fiscally mismanaged state in the union, which has criminally neglected funding its public pension fund for two decades, wants Washington to pull its chestnuts out of the fire? Certainly, states should get something. But what Illinois is asking for is shocking.
I realize Ive asked for a lot, but this is an unprecedented situation, and we face the reality that there likely will be additional, unanticipated costs that could result in future requests for assistance, Harmon wrote on behalf of the state senate Democratic caucus.
Harmons federal wish list for the second phase of federal coronavirus relief includes $15 billion in block grant funding to shore up the states spending plans for this fiscal year and the next two.
The Oak Park Democrat also asked for $10 billion for the states desperately underfunded pension plans.
A block grant is a blank check. Harmon wants the taxpayers to put $15 billion in the hands of state Democrats to spend as they wish? Illinois Republicans were, quite rightly, beside themselves, accusing Democrats in a tweet of brazenly using a global pandemic as an excuse to ask the [federal government] to bail them out of the fiscal disaster they manufactured over the last two decades. And that goes double for the pension fund. The state was going to have to ask the federal government for a pension bailout even before the pandemic. Now, they have an excuse.

Waddya bet they don't offer ANY oil companies a bailout. Thousands of jobs are being lost. The ripple effect is going to be enormous.
But oil is evil and we need "green energy" anyways. So let them fail. /s
Amend their own damn constitution before they ask for someone elses money, I say.
That’s because you should never let a crisis go to waste.

If Trump allows this, Illinois will never open for business. It will not go back into they economy at all. All 41 Billion will go to pensions. The rest will just be bonds.

He doesnt, nor do we, owe Illinois anything. They arent going to vote to elect him anyway.
Screw them. People there (the majority of the voters (dead and alive)} seem to prefer criminals as government “officials”. Tough luck. Raise taxes and cut pensions. Stop having sanctuary cities in your worthless state.
I saw this movie many years ago... “President to New York... DROP DEAD...” I believe it was the New York Slimes Headline???
Yep,yep,yep......and so it begins. It is no coincidence failed states have the most Corona cases and now demand FedGov money not to save the victims but to bailout the state pension plans and wash the money (OUR MONEY) into their agendas. It is spectacularly vile.
Not doin' it.
Amend their own damn constitution before they ask for someone elses money, I say.
I agree. Passing that Amendment was lunacy.

Hey IL dumb-as-craps...Here’s a shovel-ready project for you:
GO POUND SAND!!!
“Screw IL. I feel bad for the few conservatives that live there.”
Yeah, I’m one of them. Democrats have totally and completely ruined this state.
Let ‘em default, declare Illinois a failed state (since states cannot default on their obligations), revert it back to a territory under Federal control, throw out the constitutionalized pension obligations (among much else), and start over.
And pull their electoral votes until they can establish themselves as a new state (or states)....
Quoteth the mayor “Never let a crisis go to waste”.
100%
F them.
Hmmm, going on past history, I wonder how many billions would end up in the demon rats cam’pain’ coffers?
Same here.
What do you want to bet Mitch the bitch will fold like a cheap deck chair and fund them with the small business bailout?
A million times that! No federal tax payer money for Illinois.
