See active cases in top graph. 983 cases yesterday, 982 today.
TOPICS: Health/Medicine
KEYWORDS: noem; southdakota
Our fantastic gov Kristi Noem's resistance to cave at least appears to be working. They weren't expecting us to plateau until middle of May. Have had a death is several days, the last was a Smithfield employee about a week ago. Fingers crossed.

Are the majority of cases related to the Smithfield plant?

I wouldn't place too much significance on one day's data. I've been watching the numbers for weeks, and they can go up and down. I think all we can say for sure is that - overall - the numbers have basically levelled-off nationwide, with a very slight downward tendency.
We just ended what was said to be the two-week bad stretch, so the next week will be interesting. NYC reports early in the day, and their deaths have been going down now for about three days, a good sign. And, no, I'm not criticizing Kristi Noem or her approach.

Be careful of Monday’s numbers. They usually reflect Sunday, and lots of doctors offices are closed.

I gotcha, just wanting to shine a little ray of optimism. Our numbers are low, so trends stand out.

True, but last Monday the went up from 527 to 655, so not totally irrelevant.

So one person recovered?
Or is that a decrease in the rate of increase?
Can anyone just speak coherently for once, please? Whatever “side” you are on?
To: DadOfFive
This bit of information would have helped.
“Active cases are positive cases subtracted by recovered and deaths. | The State of South Dakota began reporting hospitalizations on 3/31/20.”

I've seen a lot of the daily ups and downs as you have. In many places, it looks like a linear regression line through the daily cases has a zero slope.
Idaho is definitely looking encouraging, though. It's amazing that growth has stopped in just over a month...

Just look at the chart yourself, no need to get upset. Recoveries are up, new cases slowing, active cases leveling, hospitalizations and death flat or near flat. Net less folks the the 'rona.

It is frustrating to watch the numbers. Two days ago, for example, Georgia reported (if I recall) 8 CV deaths, yesterday only 4. Today it is 52!

San Diego? Santo Domingo?

I’m still not sure what they mean by “active cases.” Does it mean hospitalizations? People who’ve tested positive, regardless of severity of symptoms?
To: DadOfFive
Sweden has .1% of population total cases, US has .2%.
To: Steve_Seattle
I would agree with you. I work in a hospital ER in NJ. Over the last week the case load appears to be lessening. This isn't over yet but there seems to be a ‘’leveling off. My best case is this will just peter out over the next month.

People who tested positive and have not died or recovered yet.

Sweden has .1% of population total cases, US has .2%.US has tested more per million. I tend to go with deaths. Sweden is currently slightly ahead of us. I suspect that this will all wash out. Sweden is our SD, it will be interesting to watch.
