This tune features a güiro, a percussion instrument made from gourds that sounds sort of like a musical washboard and comes from Central America. The song was a chart hit.

A drinking buddy of my dad’s used to play the musical saw. He wasn’t all that good but he had a jack russell that howeledwhile he was playing. People bought him drinks.

I’ve always been fascinated by the Aeolian Harp - a wind-played ‘harp’. There was a gentleman in Connecticut who made them out of dried gourds and other stuff:

You used to be able to buy them, or kits for them, for your home windows, at places like ‘Lark in the Morning’. But I don’t know where you can buy them anymore.
