Here's Exactly Why Watching TV Has Gotten So Annoying

Your favorite shows are getting crammed with more and more commercials. New data from Nielsen show that the number of ads per hour of TV programming is at an all-time high.

Commercials comprised 14 minutes and 15 seconds of each hour of TV on broadcast networks in 2013, up from 13 minutes and 25 seconds in 2009, according to Nielsen’s annual Advertising and Audiences report. On cable, commercials are even more frequent, totalling 15 minutes and 38 seconds of each hour.

It has been awhile since I’ve seriously watched TV. I certainly don’t watch any programing. But I when I have watched, I have noted that every commercial now — everyone — is dominated by females, often times with not a male in the commercial. Just watch any commercial and the female is always the central focus of the ad. It’s crazy.

Hollywood and Madison avenvue share the blame in propigating soy boys and hard-edged females who will have a long life withe their cats in old age.

Here are the ones that killed radio for me.

“LEGAL, LEGAL, LEGAL!!!!!!!
Smokin Rays, Cannabis, Vape, ............”
All in a heavy chain smokers voice, guy sounds like he should die of throat cancer at any moment!

Then there are the incessant ads for bail bonds.

If ads are any indication, we cannot let the Kung Flu end, as all ads are exploiting it mercilessly.

I need a working CD player.

And we are NOT “All in this together”, I’m in a very rural area where the only real change has been that some stores and all the sit-down restaurants are closed.
I move around freely and have never worn a face-diaper.

That’s not it. It’s constantly trying to figure out who the gay character is. Is the main actor gay, is that his friend or his lover? Is are those women lesbians? When are we going to have to see two guys kissing? That’s why.

From the 40s to the 60s programs had sponsors and the cast would even pitch the product sometimes within the program and sometimes adjacent to commercial spots. So they were ads but they were also part of the program

Bewitched actually integrated commercials into the opening title sequence; I think Ken-L-Ration was one they did it for.

On talk radio I’m not happy with all of the host sponsor plugs in the middle of the program. The come on is that they’re going to tell you something that’s news, but then they go into a pitch for some privacy protection firm or some supplement pills…

I record everything on the DVR so I can fast-forward through commercials and any other annoying scenes that might pop up. I’ve stopped watching most network programs because they shove homosexuality down your throat all the time. I’ve cut back on a lot of the shows I used to watch as I got tired of the story lines. I used to enjoy Blue Bloods, but it got so that the scripts were based on some incident that had recently happened in the news. No thanks. I’ve got Netflix, and Prime. I got a free year of AppleTV with my new laptop, and a free year of Disney+ from Verizon, although I’ve hardly watched anything on Disney+.

Who watches network TV anymore? Or cable even?

Haven’t these people heard of streaming television? Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime, etc. etc. Watch what you want commercial free.

They're turning into shave or maybe quick shower time. I can't imagine watching without a DVR anymore.

As much as I love sleeping on My Pillow— I HATE the ads. He is a good person, but the commercials go on forever. I put the TV on mute. Another one is the Shriners one. a good cause, but I can’t take it. Mute that one, too.

Television lost its luster for me with the Rural Purge.
I bought first and only television in January of 1990 when my wife was pregnant with our first. I got to of the damned thing in March of 1995.

I see televisions at restaurants or waiting rooms and at this point laugh tracks or pauses during which the audience is expected to respond drive me up the wall.

Well bless their little hearts. They are offended that I am not a conformist? Is that not what FR republic is all about?
Poor little babies. No I have never watched an episode of “Stienfish” as you called it. (It is Seinfeld) Let me repeat, I do not own a TV and do not watch it except at a restaurant having dinner and taking in a ballgame. Virtue signalling, what crap. Get a life beyond TV. Thank you.

The average IQ (of all races) in the United States is 98.

Most commercials are made to be viewed and understood at an IQ of somewhere between 75 and 80.

Yes, commercials really are for dumb people.

That makes sense. You don’t want to waste time thinking about commercials. Too many more important things to worry about.
