[Vanity - Sunday night Cheer-Up-Sunday jazz joy]: For my fellow Freeper jazz lovers - couple of amazing performances by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross vocalizing Count Basie's big band arrangemente

In 1957 Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, backed by a Basie-esque rhythm secion, recorded 10 multi-track vocal versions of famous Count Basie arrangements in an album called "Sing A Song of Basie.

They wrote lyrics to all the horn parts, and sing the sh!t out of all these songs, including note-for-note vocals of instrumental solos (also with lyrics).

Here are two of my favorites from that album:

Down For The Count

Little Pony (freakin' awesome note-for-note sax solo lyricized vocal interpretation by John Hendricks)

And if you want to hear the whole album, here it is:

Sing a Song of Basie

Good selections to lift the soul during social distancing. To alleviate boredom during my enforced idleness, I have rediscovered Tuba Skinny doing New Orleans street blues/jazz along with Post Modern Jukebox featuring Chloe Feoranzo and Allison Young. PMJ specializes in taking current hits redone in a 1920’s style.

Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. It’s been a while since I listened to them. A little slice of heaven, as far as I am concerned.
