Right. The US pulled funding in 2014. But the study was already underway so they got in under the wire. I'm a bit confused on 'funding' tho. What funding are we giving them? Or gave them? And to who? The Wuhan CDC lab inside the city or the Level 4 lab or the main office whatever they call it?
According to France, who built (co-built) the level 4 lab 20 miles outside of Wuhan, it didn't open until 2018, although it was completed in late 2015. The $3.7M the USA gave in 2015 could have been for equipment. Or maybe it was just for the Institute in general. Or maybe it was a bribe to keep the freezers running on the 1500 viruses the CCP had managed to accumulate.
