Meat dishes are to be slashed by 20 percent in schools, universities and hospitals in a major move to cut greenhouse gases linked to livestock.
Public sector caterers have vowed to hit the target as part of a pledge which also aims to boost peoples health by lowering consumption of animal products.
The meals being reduced in canteens and kitchens across the UK are eaten by a quarter of the population.
Hitting the 20 per cent target would remove nearly 20 million lbs of meat from plates every year equivalent to 45,000 cows or 16 million chickens.
Farmers livelihoods will be adversely affected by the changes.
The #20percentlessmeat pledge was launched in trade magazine Public Sector Catering. [ ]
The move follows recommendations in January from the UKs official climate change advisers.
It also reflects warnings by the World Health Organization and doctors that high consumption of processed meat raises the risk of cancer.

Post of the day!
Give me sirloin or give me death. Screw you and your kale, you crazy fofos.
Hitler didn’t eat meat. Just saying.
Using their own flawed logic, they should simply eliminate all food programs forever. Climate change problem would be solved within 90 days...with the exception of the cannibals.
The UK has become a nation of fools.
Lots of meat on the menu.

Leftist lunacy knows no depths.

Schools & hospitals - the weakest among us & least likely to be able to protest. Low down & cowardly.
Why is it that leadership never cuts its own meals, salaries, & benefits first as an example for others?
Sounds like tyranny to me & just plain evil. This is the result of socialism/communism.
It’s no wonder my ancestors left the UK to come to the American Colonies in the early 1600s! Even the current day UK “scientists” and “scholars” are DAFT!
Man doesn’t control the climate; Nature does.
