The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Just glancing at it, I think I can see the author’s name.
Used my go to for “JDI” and the rest fell into place.
Solution to our last puzzle: BE WARY OF STRONG DRINK. IT CAN MAKE YOU SHOOT AT TAX COLLECTORS AND MISS. ROBERT A. HEINLEIN
If its not Henry David, its the other guy.
About 1 and 1/2 min. I thought yesterday’s author was Abe Lemmons?
Yep. Author gives it away.
Yeah, but the repeated letters in the last name give it away. I solved it without paper or electronic aid (”in my head”) because it was so easy. Funny coincidence, wife and I took a walk around Minuteman Historical Park Wednesday to get the heck out of the house, and I was looking at a snapshot of the Old Manse (next to the park) I took on that outing before heading over here.
Yes, just over a minute. Easy as pie.
Sung at the Completion of the Battle Monument, July 4, 1837
By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to Aprils breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world.
The foe long since in silence slept;
Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;
And Time the ruined bridge has swept
Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.
On this green bank, by this soft stream,
We set today a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem,
When, like our sires, our sons are gone.
Spirit, that made those heroes dare
To die, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee.

You got this one out before I had to get back on the road this morning😀
A lot easier than ‘first glance’ showed.
Whatever happened to ‘put it back’?
If you love something
Release it to the wild
If it comes back
Kill it
Or something like that...
(I won’t say anything about the ‘published’ yesterdays answer)...
Like the lead in to ‘Fargo’....names have been changed to protect the living, the dead don’t care....
Or something like that.
Yep, you are correct.
Okay, now, that one was easy and went quickly. And that author is a favorite of mine. =)
LOL- good Cryptogram-
Likely so, though I got the puzzle before the name was obvious.
Quickly. It almost solved itself! Thanks for keeping these up.
