DOE confirms eight cases of coronavirus at Savannah River Site

Eight cumulative cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, have been recorded at the Savannah River Site as of late Thursday morning.

That’s an uptick of two cases compared to Wednesday afternoon.

Four Savannah River Site employees have recovered from novel coronavirus infection and have returned to work, a U.S. Department of Energy spokesperson said...

Roughly 10,000 people are employed at SRS, the federal nuclear reserve south of Aiken and neighboring New Ellenton and Jackson. In light of the novel coronavirus crisis, most Savannah River Site employees are teleworking or are on leave — though the former is complicated by the nature of the work done there.

USDA TO BUY AS MUCH EXCESS MILK AND MEAT AS POSSIBLE, SAYS PERDUE

By
Chuck Abbott
4/16/2020
Besides billions of dollars in cash payments to farmers, coronavirus relief will include purchases of “as much” milk and meat as possible for hunger relief, said Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue on Wednesday. President ***** says at least $16 billion will be spent on aid to agriculture.

...

Pork processors are likely to slow production during April, May, and June, when the impacts of the pandemic are expected to be the most severe, said the USDA’s monthly Livestock, Dairy and Poultry Outlook. “Some postponed animal slaughter is likely to be rolled forward to succeeding quarters.”

Interesting. A couple of studies on negative outcomes, found especially Type 2 patients had very high prevotella gum infection. They theorized this as the source of prevotella bacterial infection in the lungs of COVID-19 patients. Further, overgrowth orally was shown to increase gum disease (a couple of dental papers).

Two more Holyoke Soldiers Home vets die of COVID-19, bringing total to 38

JEANETTE DEFORGE, .49 MINUTES AGO
HOLYOKE – A total of 65% of the veterans at the Holyoke Soldiers Home have now contracted the coronavirus and at least 38 have died of the virus in the past three weeks.

Two more veterans who were confirmed to have suffered from COVID-19 have died in the past day and test results are pending for another resident who died overnight. Eight additional veterans have died in the same time period from other causes, said officials for the state Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

Family members confirmed that Charles Lowell, 78, a former Hardwick Selectman and volunteer firefighter and EMT in the town died Wednesday morning in the hospital. Lowell, who served five years in the U.S. Air Force and then worked at IBM for 27 years, had been fighting the virus for three weeks.

“He is an all-around good guy and he loves his town,”

If it is nicotine, it would be interesting to see how the patch works in volunteers.

USS Roosevelt updates:

“As of Wednesday, the Navy said 615 sailors from the Roosevelt have tested positive for the virus, and 4,046 have been moved ashore in Guam.

One sailor from the ship died Monday. A second was admitted to an intensive care unit Tuesday for “increased observation due to shortness of breath” and remains there Wednesday.

Four other sailors from the Roosevelt are also being treated at the U.S. Naval Hospital Guam, but are not in intensive care.”

SECDEF: Majority of Roosevelt sailors with COVID-19 are asymptomatic

Diana Stancy Correll
A majority of the sailors assigned to the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt who have tested positive for COVID-19 — at least 350 crew members — are asymptomatic, according to Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.

“What we’ve found of the 600 or so that have been infected, what’s disconcerting is a majority of those, 350 plus, are asymptomatic,” Esper said in an interview with the “Today Show” on Thursday. “So it has revealed a new dynamic of this virus that it can be carried by normal, healthy people who have no idea whatsoever that they are carrying it.”

“So we’re learning a lesson there, and making sure that we communicate that to our broader force and we take every precaution we can to keep our force healthy and ready,” Esper said.

Despite being sidelined in Guam, the Roosevelt still could head out to sea and perform its “wartime mission” if needed, Esper said.

***********************************

I was thinking the same thing, since the patch delivers it to the bloodstream. And I seem to recall reading yesterday that the virus is more of a blood issue than respiratory...that’s just a primary place it manifests itself.

That is very low dose. I take high dose daily (>3000mg). You may be one of the unlucky few that are allergic to C12. 1-3 pellets a day seems to be exceptionally low dose (<1 gram). Sorry to hear that.

Found this easy recipe for just making evaporated milk from powdered milk.

Evaporated Milk
1 C water
2/3 C powdered milk
Mix together with a whisk or blender. Will replace evaporated milk in any recipe.

Somewhere around here I have a recipe I have used to make cottage cheese from powdered milk.

Our pilot data suggest that cigarette smoke or nicotine inhalation inhibits the expression of ACE2/AT2R in multiple organs including the brain, heart and lungs, thus disrupting the balance within the RAS.
