The 31-year-old from Houston knew she did not want another baby. She already had three her youngest, a boy, was just 6 months old. And she had just been laid off from her job in a medical billing office, another casualty of Americas growing unemployment crisis.
So she scheduled an abortion at a local clinic. But when she arrived for her appointment four weeks ago, the doors were locked and a sign was taped inside the glass: The clinic was closed.
Abortions in Texas were off after the state included them on a list of medical procedures that were not essential and needed to be postponed during the coronavirus pandemic.
The woman, who asked that her name not be used to protect her privacy, walked back to her car, took out her phone and immediately started Googling her options.
Her search would eventually involve four states and six clinics. Last week, she was 18 weeks pregnant and considering driving nine hours to a clinic in Wichita, Kan., with her infant son in the back seat.
Im just kind of overwhelmed and frustrated and stressed, the woman said last week. I just know I cant handle another baby. I just know. I know physically, emotionally, financially.
The fight over abortion rights, rather than receding into the background during the pandemic, has intensified as several states banned the procedure in recent weeks as part of emergency measures to fight the virus.
In six states, Alabama, Arkansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas, state authorities have included abortion as a nonessential medical procedure, arguing that postponement is necessary to preserve medical and protective equipment. Abortion rights groups say the pandemic is being used as a pretense to restrict abortion, and have sued five of the states to stop them.

"I lost my job, can't pay the light bill, have other kids, so now have to kill this baby".
Never mind there are safe haven laws in every state.
Never mind that when the baby comes Covid 19 will be a distant memory and she will be working again
Women health never taught her to keep her dammed legs closed
Adoption.
Put the baby up for adoption.
You can’t handle anpther, ok we believe you. Put it up for adoption, someone else can handle it.
Three kids, works in medical field and presto! preggers. It’s like magic.
And the only “a” word they know is abortion, no one tells them the other one, “adoption”.
There are many cheap forms of birth control. There is no excuse for a 31 yr old woman to not know & practice one of them.
Very easy solution. Choices are have the baby and put it up for adoption, have the child and love it ( yeah, that’ll work for sure ). Join the marines and lose the pregnancy during one of the training exercises, go to Austin, climb the capital dome and jump or just keep ya friggin legs closed.

See the point. Good, you are now a “journalist” for the NYT.
So, she knew she didn’t want a baby and got pregnant anyway?
No sympathy here for her inconvenience in killing the kid.
It’s pathetic that it’s easier to get an abortion during the CCP Virus crisis than it is to get a haircut.
There's no mention of her being raped, a victim of incest, or her life is at risk.
She has a 6 month old and she's only realizing now after she becomes pregnant she doesn't want another baby.
This article infers she needs the abortion because she only recently lost her job.
Has this woman ever heard of any form of birth control?
The 31-year-old from Houston knew she did not want another baby.”
We need to study this. There must be some way these poor women can avoid getting pregnant
I need a moment to rend my garments.
She’s frustrated at how hard it is to kill her own child? Poor baby.
Now that you mention it, that is a good idea. Maybe we can get a government grant or something.
Any 31 year-old woman with THREE kids-one of them only 6 months old-that has not mastered the use of at least two forms of birth control in addition to having the willpower to abstain from having sex at the drop of a thong does not have the sense to consent to an abortion/infanticide-but she doesn’t deserve to keep that baby, either-there are plenty of couples with infertility issues who would adopt and cherish her unwanted child...
Imagine how the baby feels...
or get fixed...
