The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram. If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
WHEN I GO TO THE BEAUTY PARLOR, I ALWAYS USE THE EMERGENCY ENTRANCE. SOMETIMES I JUST GO FOR AN ESTIMATE. PHYLLIS DILLER
Todays cryptogram is a little tricky. You may need to set it down have another cuppa coffee and come back to it. Anything under five minutes today is a good score.
Clue for today: The most common letter in a puzzle is not always E.
Got the ‘key vowel’ on first stab and once I found what the ending of the first word WASN’T, it was smooth sailing.
A good test of a person is how they treat those ‘below’ when no one ‘above’ is watching.
BFLWYFA is a frequently the last name of the author, and may give away the last three letters of the first name, as it does in this case.
Not nearly as easy as yesterday’s.
English language letter frequency:
E - 12.70%
T - 9.06%
A - 8.17%
O - 7.51%
I - 6.97%
N - 6.75%
A - 6.33%
Struggled with a couple of false starts with this one. Enjoyed the struggle - the past few have been “too easy”, I guess.
Thank you for posting these every day.
Not tricky at all. Author’s last name did it.
Five minutes wasted to no avail the first time.
Concentrating on the “common last name” gave it to me in 90 sec the second try.
I don’t take the blame or deserve any credit for this one.
We probably should post this every week.
Is there mnemonic that goes with it?
You have A twice
I wasted a pot of coffee, then went back and put T where it should be, and the heavens opened up for me with trumpets....
