"If a statue in the Park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, The person died in battle."

This myth is only mostly true at the Gettysburg battlefield. Gettysburg has the most monuments and statues, perhaps because it was the most accessible to vets and the general public during the 1890s, and is still the best maintained in it's original state.

(Although, Little Round Top was entirely wooded over, the last time I was there, when in fact it had been lumbered off, in 1863.)

Hearts - Charlemagne

Charlemagne died of pleurisy. Then why is the King of Hearts known as the suicide King? Only because of the sword pointed at its head?

It's where we get the phrase 'mind your P's and Q's'

No...it's not. It was an admonishment used by typesetters when it was done by hand many, many years ago.

p
q

Easily transposed when setting type...which had to be done backwards to print properly.

I stir my Coffee with my Elbow. It upsets the rest of the Patrons at Starbucks until they attempt to do it themselves.

“Golf - Meaning of Word Golf. A common misconception is that the word GOLF is an acronym for Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden. This is definitely not true. It is now accepted that the ‘golf’ is derived from an old word meaning ‘club’.”

If Great Britain has been on the metric system for many years, why is their beer served in pints & quarts?

Regarding reading up side down: I worked with an old gentleman who noticed that I could read up side down. He told a story of when he was young, he couldn’t afford to buy a newspaper, so he would sit near a gentleman on the bus that would read the news paper. It was folded back, and my friend needed to read up side down to pirate the news from this gentleman. He regarded up side down reading as highly as reading a different language. This coming from a man who read and spoke four languages.

Many years ago, men ordered a pint, whereas women were expected to order a half-pint. Ordering a full pint wasn’t considered ladylike.

Maybe the inspector ordered a half because he was on duty.

A “half” is 10 fluid ounces, which is half of an imperial pint.

I got my ass bitterly kicked 17 ways from Sunday when I posted this here before, and was told it is an urban legend, by some very cranky people. Good luck.

A feminist lie.

These emails are the new 'chain letter'. They should be deleted not forwarded. They spread ridicules and debunked urban myths.
