A 35-year-old local man told police he was eating a hamburger when he hit a bump, ran over a fence and drove his 2014 Chevrolet Spark into the swimming pool of his mobile home park.
Police said Paxton Suggs had also been drinking alcohol and they took him into custody Wednesday afternoon on three counts of drunken driving.
Police were called out shortly after 2 p.m. to the Oak Tree Village mobile home park and found the green car sitting on top of a swimming pool cover while Suggs attempted to crawl out of the pool, according to the incident report.
Suggs began to crawl out, but stumbled and fell back into the pool, police said.
He later said he had driven to get fast food and was returning home when he crashed into the pool, according to police. He walked home to the 200 block of Sandalwood, told his girlfriend and then returned to his car where he was attempting to retrieve items.
After failing field sobriety tests, police said Suggs was found to have a blood alcohol count that was twice the legal limit.
A towing company removed the vehicle from the pool and Suggs was taken to jail, police said.
The value of the damaged pool cover was estimated at $3,000, police said.
Paxton Suggs taught honors language arts at Bloomington High School North for the first time this past school year. He was employed part-time with a one-year temporary contract. He says some parents complained to administrators about the content of his classes, but says the administration never asked him to change anything. So he was surprised when the school suspended him with pay to investigate several unnamed concerns. Suggs says the suspension came just a few days after a class discussion about gun regulation. One of his students recorded that talk and it circulated among parents online. Suggs says he was the only black man teaching at Bloomington North, and school administrators treated him differently than other teachers. He appealed to the citys human rights commission to investigate. "I'm not worried about me," Suggs says. "Im worried about the 21, 22, 23-year-old black or brown kid that gets into Bloomington High School North after me, and doesnt have the resources I have to fight back against the ridiculous and demonstrable institutional racism in which they are engaging."
“How could anybody be so unkind?
As to arrest a man for driving [and eating a burger] while blind?”
ZZTop!
Did he get a ticket for going in the pool during a ‘lockdown’?
Aha: Portage, Indiana. I was looking for the “Florida man” label.

Um, normally 21 to 23 yr olds are either working or in college or grad school. This man is really nuts. BTW, what is ;language arts’?
The owner should consider the much cheaper loop-loc ($2000) pool cover.
Ha. What a great reminder to watch one of the best movies ever: Return of the Pink Panther! Even my 23 year old daughter loves it (and has since she was 8):
This guy should have just blamed the minky (or being on the fhune)...
Definitely time well spent to watch this classic!
“Definitely time well spent to watch this classic!”
I’ve watched every one of those classics, over and over again, since they originally came out in the 70’. I especially enjoyed the scenes between him and his house boy Kato, with the surprise attacks.

Chevy Spark? What a POS import.
“2014 Chevrolet Spark”
What goods a Chevy Spark if the guy wasn’t instantly electrocuted?
He wasn’t distracted by his phone, so it’s all good.
