Good morning!

You mention so many wonderful benefits of school at home/home schooling.

This one really caught my eye...

...and waiting on the slowest students to catch up....

That’s what public school is centered around, anymore....lowering the pace/standard/expectation to the slowest learners.

Sounds like your son had the best of all worlds, with his experience. Congrats, to both of you.

Good thing I stocked up on all of those pork chops, bacon and country sausage, a couple of month ago.

They are vacuum packed, in the freezer.

Hopefully, the plants get back up to speed, soon.

Sounds pretty “harmless” until you run the numbers of how many at-risk people that translates to:

New York State

Hypertension - 31.7% (4.9 million)

https://www.health.ny.gov/statistics/prevention/injury_prevention/information_for_action/docs/2018-08_ifa_report.pdf

Diabetes - 12.5% (2 million)
Pre-diabetes - 36.2% (5.4 million)

http://main.diabetes.org/dorg/PDFs/Advocacy/burden-of-diabetes/new-york.pdf

Obesity - 62.7 (12 million)

https://www.health.ny.gov/prevention/obesity/

*****
With the new R naught numbers that are out, 5.7 I think, I wonder what that translates to in severe outcomes since the US as a whole has a pretty unhealthy population.

He did and some of his friends thought he was pretty lucky. Parents have told me it sounds hard, truth is the online schools have made it a breeze.

You can even dual enroll online while in high school now, he got 30+ college credits under his belt.

I guarantee you the NEA is having fits knowing that all these people are suddenly finding out homeschooling is not so evil lol

Yes! Great way to kick start college. Mine did that, as well. Worked out beautifully.

Very sad :(

I wonder what this Sailor’s underlying health conditions could’ve been, if any.

Prayers.

Coronavirus: France quarantines entire aircraft carrier crew
......
France on Monday quarantined the entire crew of the aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle after 50 cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed on board.

The unprecedented operation to isolate 1,900 sailors aboard its nuclear-powered aircraft carrier began on Sunday, France’s defence ministry said.

....

Three sailors had already been evacuated to hospital Toulon as a “precaution” before the ship docked.

All the personnel will be tested and they will then be put into isolation for two weeks, with no physical contact allowed with their families, said the spokeswoman for the regional authorities, Christine Ribbe....

This is a developing story

I wonder what that translates to in severe outcomes since the US as a whole has a pretty unhealthy population.

I think the US as a whole is a bunch of overweight / obese people.

I don't think our diet recommendations as promoted by the USG help much.

And also how we eat is a factor. When my stepdaughter's aunt was visiting from Japan, she was shocked at the large portion sizes for many restaurants in the US.

Events like these are a good time to reassess lifestyle and make appropriate adjustments.

I am copying PA_Engineer as I wonder about food ingredients such as HFCS and that being just one of many things that contribute to health issues.

Well, I can tell you that once my husband went on Keto, he lost 50+ lbs, and his A1C and blood pressure went down within a month. Within about 8 months his cholesterol are within healthy ranges. At first his GP was skeptical but after a year, he told him to keep doing what he’s doing.

Which is why you can’t compare outcomes in places like Sweden and SK with what they will be in the CONUS.

Sweden has essentially adopted keto as a healthy diet. SK doesn’t have the number of obese we do either.

So the hospitalization rate, death rate and negative outcome rates of those two countries have literally nothing to do with what will happen in CONUS.

There are a LOT of flubros who harp ‘pre-existing conditions’ to unexpected young dead from this...and don’t realize that simply having elevated fasting insulin is probably the real culprit. Everything goes downhill from there. And there are a LOT of flubros who have elevated fasting insulin levels. And A1C over 5.5ish. If you’re over 40 with more than 15lbs extra and/or elevated A1C (over 5.5ish), you’re asking for trouble if you catch this.

I agree, and it’s even hard to compare different cities within the US. In my county here in GA, I see very few overweight people. There are a lot of people on Keto here. We have 187 cases, 7 deaths but no one under the age of 70. But some of these rural counties? Goodness, it’s scary how many obese people you see, and in some of those counties they have younger people dying.

I chalk it up to the health makeup of the population, or the different strains of the illness.

Either way, if it can do the kind of damage in these Asian countries who (I think?) have better diets than us, imagine the damage here left unchecked.

Adding to my last post, you also have the skinny-fat people - my husband’s elderly dad is 140 lbs soaking wet, but his blood sugar is very high. Not good.
