I wonder what that translates to in severe outcomes since the US as a whole has a pretty unhealthy population.

I think the US as a whole is a bunch of overweight / obese people.

I don't think our diet recommendations as promoted by the USG help much.

And also how we eat is a factor. When my stepdaughter's aunt was visiting from Japan, she was shocked at the large portion sizes for many restaurants in the US.

Events like these are a good time to reassess lifestyle and make appropriate adjustments.

I am copying PA_Engineer as I wonder about food ingredients such as HFCS and that being just one of many things that contribute to health issues.

Well, I can tell you that once my husband went on Keto, he lost 50+ lbs, and his A1C and blood pressure went down within a month. Within about 8 months his cholesterol are within healthy ranges. At first his GP was skeptical but after a year, he told him to keep doing what he’s doing.

I think the stay at home requirements will increase BMI a full 1-2 points. Some even 3.

Reasons: healthy cooking is absolutely foreign to the majority of Americans. They eat out. What they eat is absolute crap in terms of ingredients, portions, etc. staying at home means a ton more processed food. Even if they cook properly they will eat too much.

Time: without work and school, they will eat nonstop. At school kids can’t munch nonstop, at home with the video games its soda and chips nirvana.

Stress: at the max = more eating. Frozen, fried, premade, processed poison. Their uptake will double.

Choices: first thing on their mind to do when restrictions end - beeline to their favorite food trough for a genuine all out pig down. Facebook photos of the debauchery to boot.

The Wohoo LOVES fat. On the rebound that is who it is going for. Can’t miss.

HFCS is not really that much different than sugar in glucose and fructose composition.

The fructose satiety mechanism has been examined:

Fructose and Satiety

Fructose may be particularly problematic, however carbohydrates generally alter satiety signals based on insulin levels.

I haven't examined it closely enough yet, but it is possible glucose will have less of a longterm impact when consumed in a time restricted eating manner. Glucose is metabolized differently than fructose.

What is the Difference Between Glucose and Fructose Metabolism

Glucose levels in the blood are still tightly regulated, hence excess glucose consumption will require storage and regulation within adipose.
