Beloved Seattle-area taco truck owner dies from coronavirus

Many of you may have already seen Lopez’s name among headlines in 2017, after he made national headlines doling out tacos from his food truck on Interstate 5 after a semitruck rolled over and held up traffic.

Sitting among a flutter of honking horns and tense drivers, Lopez too realized he would no longer make it to South Lake Union for the usual Amazon lunch rush. So, he hopped out, and started dishing out steak and chicken tacos to commuters as they awaited freedom on the road.

RIP Thomas Lopez

Thank you, that is excellent. I’m going to print a copy and carry it with me to the hospital if anyone in my crew get sick.

I totally agree the country needed to be shut down. Weeks before it was and planes grounded weeks before they were.

What’s going to happen if they open it back up in a few days? More infections and more deaths and more lifetime disabilities.

Yes, High Schools and Universities closed, Elementary Schools open. No sporting events, concerts or other gatherings. Much fewer people out and about, and elderly are sheltering in place. They have also limited travel to only EEA countries. Pretty moderate but effective actions, and at their current rate, they will have to adjust course or risk losing control. They also have the benefit that their neighbors have closed all borders, and global travel and tourism is highly limited right now, making their own control measures easier to manage and more effective. All this in a country the size of California with 1/4th the population and where the largest city is 975 thousand people.

Good points. And Los Angeles requires a mask when shopping now. Texas city on border says you have to have masks outside or $1,000. It is going that way.

I think Brazil is one of the “let it burn through” countries, right?

Coronavirus cases in Brazil :
19,638 cases confirmed by the Ministry of Health and
1,056 deaths.
The average lethality rate is 5,4%
State of São Paulo has 8,216 cases with 540 deaths. The mortality rate in the state is 6,6%

The US virus distribution map shows lots of variability. So they may choose to let some cities remain locked up.

I tell you, Petunia is the most amazing dog I have ever known in my life. I don't mean to pick favorites over my other two dogs, or any other dog I've ever had, but she is just pure spirit and drive, and her level of intelligence is astonishing.

That place I took her today, that is where you go to bond with your dog. This is an additional picture of her going bonkers on the beach. She dug her stick backwards like this across the entire beach. I've never seen someone so happy to work this hard either, she really moved some beach! She somehow digs backward while moving backwards pulling the stick along without actually touching it.

speaking of burning thru, Calif legislators want transparency from Newsom:

Gov. Newsom provided ‘very little information’ on state’s $1 billion coronavirus mask purchase, lawmakers say

... there’s been little clarity so far about the details of the agreements made by the governor’s administration, either on the terms or the total amount that will be spent.

...The Newsom administration’s request also left some confusion about the total amount being spent, citing “approximately $1.4 billion” for personal protective equipment for those treating confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases. On Wednesday, Newsom seemed to say during an online briefing that the [masks] purchase was part of the $1.4 billion in spending. But by late Thursday, his advisers said the $1.4 billion represents other spending to combat the virus.

If they would stop trying to restrict novel treatments like HCQ and Remdesevir, we could start opening up (more gradually than we shut down) on that April 30 date, assuming we don’t have Special Kind of Stupid On-site Easter Service-related outbreaks.*

*Either do a car service like some people have done, or do it remotely.
