Major League Baseball is considering a plan that would eliminate the traditional National League and American League alignments for the 2020 regular season if and when it takes place, a high-ranking official told Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports.
Under this scenario, all 30 teams would return to their spring training facilities in Florida and Arizona. The teams would only play games in their respective states and with no fans in attendance. The divisions would be realigned based on the proximity of spring ballparks for ease of travel during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Grapefruit beats Cacti.
The Mighty Petz will be favored and win it all.
I was being tongue-in-cheek but apparently MLB is taking absurdity to an even higher level.
Horrible idea.
Here is my idea.
Wait until July 1. Start spring training again.
Add 5 roster spots, 4 pitchers and 1 position player.
August 1st’ish begin season.
Play 6 days a week with 2 double headers each week.
Only play against your division.
Winners of divisions make playoffs.
Playoffs begin immediately on October 1’ish with division winners vs division winners.....since there are 3 divisions in each league .....1st round is AL best record plays NL worst record and visa versa.....2nd best records in NL and AL play eachother. 2nd round resets to best record vs worst records.
The mayhem and gnashing of teeth revolving around tradition being trashed...that drama will be worth it.
Meanwhile, the Rangers just got rid of a perfectly good ballpark, for what?
Exactly.
How long do you think it will take before scared-out-of-their-freaking-minds Americans will again attend a professional sports game, a live concert, a parade, a community festival, a large wedding reception .......... unless of course everyone wears full personal protection equipment so they can sit within two yards of each other.
The team that comes in second place for the season....
“he TV ratings will be off the charts”
No, they won’t, people won’t give a damn about the NFL by September.
That’s why they’ll be heavily tested before starting all this and then isolated. If nobody comes in sick, nobody transmits sick.
Nobody is in breach. Everybody has a catastrophe clause that includes things like declared states of emergency.
There will be NCAA football. Citizens of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Clemson, SC need something to live for. Their whole reason for living is to bask in the glory of semi-literate 19 year old black kids.
Getting COVID-19 isn’t necessary a bad thing as long as people get it gradually.
More fans watch on TV than live. And really it’s about finding some normal, hope, and fun. I’m for it. I don’t really even like baseball, but if they get this going I’m watching every day. Just for some semblance of a proper world.
Bad idea.
quit f*cking with baseball.
You are also forgetting that summer in Florida is rife with thunderstorms and hurricanes. Not to mention the 90 degrees with 90% humidity on "normal" days.
How many games would that be? Have you figured it out yet?
There would also be an absence or
altering of minor league baseball,
college development leagues and
everything down to Little League.
This year was supposed to be the
final year of the Pawtucket (RI)
Red Sox, a Triple A team that is
scheduled to move next year to
Worcester MA (”Woo Sox”).
Will Pawtucket get to enjoy this
one final year of having a team or
will minor league baseball—
already facing some teams folding-
be silent this year?
