When Democrats say theres no room for pro-life people in the Democrat party, they really mean it. And Democrats in the state of Tennessee literally just removed a 26-year state legislator from the August primary ballot because hes pro-life on abortion.
The Tennessee Democratic Party voted Wednesday to remove state Rep. John DeBerry from the August 6th primary ballot. berry represents District 90 and is from Memphis. But he can no longer represent the party before voters because he doesnt stand for the value of killing babies in abortions. And the vote wasnt even close as the radical abortion activists who run the Democrat Party voted 41-18 to kick him out.
As the Tennessean reports:
Tennessee Democratic Party chair Mary Mancini said it was standard procedure for the State Democratic Primary Board to vote on challenges to candidates appearing on the ballot.
After a long meeting in which we heard challenges and evidence, we did what we thought was best to protect the Tennessee Democratic Party and the values we stand for, Mancini said.
The former Democrat didnt mince words in a statement issued after the vote.
The Tennessee Democratic Party has decided that a 26-year Representative that spent 12 years as a committee chairman, conducted himself with integrity, served the party well, sponsored meaningful legislation and built bridges across the aisle to get bills passed is no longer a Democrat. And so, Im not, he said.
When it came to abortion, DeBerry had a very clear pro-life position and said people need to take more personal responsibility for their actions instead of getting elective abortions. And he voted for the heartbeat bill banning abortions on babies whose hearts have begun to beat.
This was the first chance in 25 years that I had to go on record and say I disagree with abortion, said DeBerry, D-Memphis.
But DeBerry, who said he has not received criticism from fellow Democrats about his vote, believes that women could be taking more initiative to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
I choose my battles, and I choose to give girls self esteem, self worth, to where they dont feel that their bodies are just a vessel for somebody to play with and they dont get themselves in that position, DeBerry said.
I think thats whats being lost. Personal responsibility, pride, self esteem it makes a person walk away from those situations that get them in this position. Because the woman ultimately has to bear the burden, he said. The man walks away. The woman has to deal with it for the next nine months.
DeBerry, an ordained Church of Christ minister, said he has stood against abortion consistently since the 1970s. His father, who also was a preacher, spoke out against it too, DeBerry said.
Deberry can continue speaking out against abortion, but he will have to do so without being a Democrat.
so he either retires or we get a pro-life libtard wanting to water down our party.
we need rules for democrats like this.
they should never be allowed to switcharties just like that.
they are career democrats.
i would say they shouldn’t be able to even be considered to be in the republican party as long as they held office as a democrat. they can be an independent for however long, they will atill be voting democrat most of the time anyway.
This was the first chance in 25 years that I had to go on record and say I disagree with abortion, said DeBerry, D-Memphis
That didn’t take long for the Dem’s to get rid of this guy.
YOU either ride their (the Dem’s) Train or you are discarded like yesterday’s newspaper.
I hope he runs as an independent and the republican wins. I know probably unlikely but Id like them to try.
Molech must be a mean god to work for.
In Illinois they did that to Ted Lipinski starting by changing his district http://www.theusmat.com/mdwbea.htm
The deadline to run as an independent has passed.
You’re correct; TN has an April 2 filing deadline not only for major-party candidates, but also for independents. (Many states have a later deadline for independents because indeoendents don’t have to go to primaries.) That does change things a bit, since DeBerry can claim that the Democrat Party waited until just after the filing deadline passed before disqualifying him from the Democrat ballot so as to prevent him from running at all.
State law allows removal.
Most states, that isn’t the case.
There was a court case in CT which granted ballot access.
independent thought is unacceptable. We’re the collective
The reason Rep. John DeBerry runs as a Democrat is because of the district (Urban Black Dem), but he would be a Republican otherwise. The Dems have been purging the moderate/center-right Black officeholders in TN and replacing them with psycho nutjob leftists.
Dem Chairwoman Mancini is a psycho nutjob herself (albeit White). They obviously want an all-infanticide party all the time. It’s pretty sick.
DeBerry is one of the most respected members of the legislature, and this is a total disgrace to treat him as such.
We’d be happy to have him. He’s a Conservative.
Until recently, Conservative Blacks (in TN) have been able to win Dem primaries because the districts would not elect Republicans (but they would elect people that voted mostly with them, as DeBerry has).
The TN Dems have ruthlessly exercised their right to judge who is an ‘actual Democrat’ (which means, no non-leftists). When a moderate liberal Clarksville Dem Senator Rosalind Kurita voted for Republican Ron Ramsey to serve as Lt Governor and she came up for reelection and won renomination, the Dems stripped her of the win and put in a leftist (citing she “won” due to Republicans voting in the primary for Kurita, and hence was illegitimate — for which Dems do all the time with Republicans in TN, but no Republican has ever been stripped on the same grounds).
As I said, this is a purge of the last of the non-leftist Black Dems in the legislature. DeBerry is a highly regarded member. Filing just closed the other day, so I’m not sure what route DeBerry takes at this point. No Republicans are running.
Republicans don’t run here. DeBerry has a better voting record than a lot of Republicans.
Nothing new here with Democrat/Leftists: Abortion enthusiasts just bein’ abortion enthusiasts. Funding and promoting death while bragging about their commitment to life (but only as it involves the Chinese Flu).
So it’s a case of political expediency.
Abortion is the litmus test for both parties. A pro-life Democrat is about as welcome in that part as a pro-choice Republican would be welcome in the GOP.
Youre no Matlock. Its within their right.
