Mok Slammed for Backing Ban on Eating Cats and Dogs

HONG Kong artiste Karen Mok has been criticised online for supporting Shenzhen’s ban on the eating of cats and dogs, Sin Chew Daily reported.

“This is exciting news! Hope the entire China will soon ban the eating of cats and dogs, ” she wrote on Weibo, referring to reports that Shenzhen has become the first Chinese city to ban the sale and consumption of dog and cat meat starting next month.

Mok, 49, is an ambassador for the Hong Kong Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Her posting, however, led to dozens of negative comments against her. One said the ban on dog meat became a contentious subject only because Western countries did not consume it.

“Are you saying that China is not a modern civilisation?

“Or are you implying that only countries which have banned dog meat are modern societies?” the netizen wrote.

Another questioned why she did not support the banning of other animals apart from cats and dogs.

“Just because you don’t eat (cat or dog meat), does it mean we should stop eating as well?

“What about pigeons? Can we ban the eating of pigeons as well?” he wrote.

Roast pigeons are considered a delicacy in Hong Kong.

Mok, whose real name is Karen Joy Morris, made her debut in the Hong Kong film industry in the early 1990s.

> Taiwanese singer Ella Chen, who gave birth to a boy in April 2017, said she would not be having a second child.

She quipped that her uterus was under a lockdown, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Chen, 38, made the revelation during a question-and-answer livestream session with her fans. She married her Malaysian husband Alvin Lai in 2012.

Chen is part of the all-girl pop group S.H.E along with Selina Jen and Hehe Tian.

The group will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

BFD. If its dog or cat they crave, they can always vacation in Korea. Or hope they get lucky at an American Chinese restaurant. Or, switch to bats or civets. /S

I’ve always wanted to try horse meat. We tend to not want to eat “cute” animals.

Wait a minute. Eating pups and kittys is promoted by the Sin Chew Daily?

Are you saying that China is not a modern civilization?

Yes.

And never has been.

Occasionally made some nice art or clever inventions but as far as civilization goes they are not housebroken yet.

They have it in france. Not sure if it would be worth the trip.

As far as I know I have never eaten it but I also did not ask what was in the food placed before me. I did not want to have trouble choking it down. Very rude to do that.

But if it tastes like zebra then it is really good.

It’s not the consumption of dogs which is the problem...it’s the savage cruelty inflicted on them during their slaughter...they’re beaten to death to increase the adrenaline in their flesh...it’s beyond disgusting...

#4: "Or that scaly anteater thing."

Coronavirus: Pangolins found to carry related strains

What's worse is that Chinamen are smuggling these into the United States, like their last "gift" to us, the Snakehead fish.

Horse steak is very lean, dark, red meat....tastes like sirloin. I had it in Belgium...quite tasty. Cheval...no big deal...

Yes, I’ve eaten cheval too. Very tasty, makes a nice pot roast. It reminds me somewhat of venison.

Sorry to break the news but St Bernards are a meat staple in China. Lots of meat. Good leather and fur. Woof!
