The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

Today’s puzzle is by a favorite author of mine and I’m sure for many here too.
I’m sure this person would relish everything going on in the world today. A person way ahead of their time.
Another short and sweet CG today. Those of you using Hal, should try solving this with pen and paper.
Got the first three words right away, but then got stuck. Eventually got the author and the rest.
Yes a tricky one
The name of the author. That and the first word.

Three minutes. I thought of the author every time I used my old U.S. Robotics 300 baud modem.
Ugh...
My cat jumped up and got the first 3 words and it was mostly UPHILL from there.
Still not sure of the 3rd word from the end....
Again I let a seemingly ‘innocent’ clue get in my mind and it sure is hard to dislodge it.
(Which is why sometimes I may ‘repeat’ anothers quip, I tend to solve without looking at someone elses ‘idea’ of a clue....Oh well)
WHY isn’t any outlet running a line of how many days

Also no one has assigned a ‘gate’ to describe our latest malady which is definitely turning into a conundrum.
MAYBE if the ‘powers that be’ quit going on air and trying to convince THEY are the ONLY voice of reason and ‘damn’ all the others.
I have gotten so I can’t/don’t watch ANY of them and when the news ‘mentions’ it I either fast forward or change.
(SORRY, I realize this is probably a ‘sanctuary’ from all the BULLSCHIFF we are being exposed to...)
About 3 minutes. I got the first word, and then figured out the first name of the author, and then figured out the last name (although there was one letter I wasn’t sure of) and then the rest was pretty easy.
OOPS
When I saw todays ‘grid’ I got so excited by the VERY obvious first 3 words that when I cut & Pasted it I neglected line two.....

Hmm...that 9th word is tricky indeed.
He also said something like “it would take an army of mathematicians a lifetime to make a mistake this big!”
So I think that 9th word must be hack. ;)
Or maybe it’s back....until they color-coded them it was hard to know which jack to put where.
