April 12, 2015 will be the 60th anniversary of the announcement of the Salk vaccine’s ability to prevent polio. Had it been available at your local CVS like flu shots are today, they would have had to call out the National Guard to handle the stampede.
In the early 1950s, there was no diagnosis more terrifying to parents than polio. In the 1952 epidemic, nearly 58,000 cases were reported, 3,145 people died and 21,269 were left with varying degrees of paralysis. There wasn’t a parent in America who would have requested a “personal belief waiver” to exempt their child from that shot.
Polio aside, in my childhood, there was no hope of avoiding measles, mumps, chicken pox and rubella (German measles) — miserable afflictions that I would never have wanted to inflict on my kids.
There could also be serious lasting repercussions to these illnesses: the pregnant neighbor who contracted rubella, (German measles) whose baby was born with severe birth defects; cases of deafness following mumps; encephalitis from measles. The curvature in my spine (and decades of back pain that has gone with it) is likely from polio.
When rubella came around again, my mother sent me to the home of a friend who had it to be sure I’d contracted it well before my childbearing years.
A new generation of young parents have never personally experienced diseases now preventable by vaccines. That’s both the good and the bad news. I guess for some, it’s easier to fear the autism spectrum they actually see.
But I wish every parent who doesn’t vaccinate their child could travel back to a 1950’s polio ward full of kids in iron lungs, or watch children suffer horribly — and sometimes permanently — from now-avoidable afflictions.

Have you ever looked at actual vaccine effectiveness studies? Probably not, it's glossed over well by the corporate drug pushers and political Left media. About 60% of the recent Measles outbreak infected HAD BEEN VACCINATED FOR MEASLES.
I've read studies and seen these figures some time ago with the big media measles outbreak push to force vaccines on everyone - with the goal to crush a basic freedom of control over what is injected in our own body.

My dad died at the age of 56 from his fourth heart attack. After the first one at the age of 47 he went to Houston to be evaluated for the very new method of bypass surgery. The world famous Doctor Michael DeBakey said his heart was too damaged to be a good candidate for a heart bypass surgery. Dad lived for nine more years with that broken heart. And now bypass surgery is successfully performed on octogenarians and even repeated on patients that have had previous bypass surgeries.
Luddites are laughable. We don't abandon cars when they have a flat tire. Why do you want to abandon vaccines when you think a person could have had a negative reaction to one? My Dad was allergic to penicillin and my oldest brother was allergic to sulfa drugs. Should penicillin and sulfa drugs have been abolished because people might be allergic to them? No. As I said, Luddites are laughable and illogical.
Chelation therapy and diet modification has been used to remove the need for hack bypass surgery, which provides only a short lease on life after completion. Many needlessly cut short their life allowing the hack and drug doctors do their thing. But hey, you have free will.
A vaccine is not a good answer, but it didn't say they never work at all. The odds aren't great it will work for you, and don't you think that there may of been progress over the last 100 years so that vaccines aren't only answer anymore, although a weak one at that?
There's no need to sit barricaded waiting to be saved, nor buy into the panic giving up our rights.

You think everyone is going to control themselves just because you want them to or say they should. If I had a million dollars I'd be rich. If I was something I'm not, life would be different. People are human and for that reason we have professionals to help us along the way.
I have done a pretty good job of following what you advocate to a simpler degree. All three of my brothers and one nephew have had heart surgeries and have not followed a very healthy lifestyle. Probably forty years ago or more I bought Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible and have followed his regime as much as I have been able to through the years.
After a routine annual checkup my doctor sent me to a cardiologist for anomalies on my EKG. Ater an ultrasound of my carotid arteries, the arteries in my extremities and a treadmill stress test he said all my doctor had seen was normal for my age and to come see him if I ever had a symptom.
After my, still not convinced and over cautious, doctor (she's a soccer mom who only has office hours three times a week) talked me into getting a CT Scan of my heart to look for calcified plaque (it was only $100.00), I went back to the cardiologist. The scan had shown a very high calcified plaque score in several of the coronary arteries. He said that there was calcification of the plaque that I had but the fact that I passed the treadmill test proved that I didn't need any intervention.
I was changed to Lipitor and have been getting over 150 minutes a week of cardio exercise and walking about 3 miles or more each day for the past year. I have a treadmill, a Bowflex, a Healthrider and a punching bag and a speed bag tower in my basement.
I told my cardiologist that I believe the fact that I had taken 1200 mg of lecithin a day for the past 40 years has helped to lessen the plaque buildup in my heart and he said that may well be.
Having said that, I recognize that I was the one that smoked for twelve years of my life and consumed sugar for most of my life leading to developing type 2 diabetes which I very well control now with pills, the diet changes and exercise.
You can bet your bottom dollar when I'm eighty years old and finally have that heart attack, I want the bypass and I'll take the vaccine when it's available now because I'm a realist and only you can be something the rest of us are not.

There is a lot to sugar alone, and how to stop consuming it, it's similar to alcohol. Most are sugarholics, there are withdraw issues when you quit consuming it. Your body, including your gut flora, will need to adapt to life without sugar, and learn to metabolize fat for energy. it's no easy accomplishment to leave it behind from your diet, but you need to for many reasons including removal of destructive inflammation, and building a strong immune response.
Sugar and dairy products are long gone from my diet, but it was a personal battle, starting over many times. The body is resilient, and can repair itself given a break from onslaught, and provided the building block materials in the diet. It's never too late to start.
Since you were a smoker, and have/had sugar problems, then COVID-19 is a major concern for you. As you probably know, those most at risk are older having per-existing conditions.

You must not have seen that a cardiologist told me that the level of plaque that I have was not a concern and see him again if I ever had a symptom. That means he was brushing me off for wasting his time.
Ever since I was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic years ago, I refuse all cake candy and ice cream. I look at labels and only purchase carbohydrates with 6 grams or less per serving.
I quit smoking about thirty five years ago, so again, not a problem.
