It got into the rural areas by the returning soldiers of WWI. Most of them came from and returned to rural areas where they spread the flu. The Spanish Flu made Corona Virus look like a non event. The official count of American dead was 650,000 but Grandpa and others thought it was in the millions. There were almost no doctors, no hospitals, no antibiotics for secondary pneumonia, no medicines, no warm houses, no protection of any kind. It was a slaughter.
The Spanish Flu. If you caught it - you suffered and died.
I guess if there was an upside to the pandemic of 1918 - it was that there was no government bailout of trillions and trillions of dollars.
Didn’t the Spanish flu take out children more than old coots?
And people in their twenties and thirties.
Isn’t it time for leftists to start demanding the immediate removal of statues of Americans who called it “Spanish Flu”?
The Spanish flu had 3 waves that took several years to pan out.
We’ve been at this for months.
You might want to wait about a year before passing judgement.

Don’t laugh..I recently read there was a group that literally wanted to rename it - including updating the Wikipedia entry - because “Spanish” flu was too inflammatory and not PC enough.

Sounds like that would be impossible to predict if this virus is as “novel” as they say it is. No one knows if that will happen.
It sounds like the second wave of Spanish flu only happened because of improper housing and transport of patients that is not going to be done today with this one.
What if THIS is the second wave?
If the social distancing prevents people fromcontractg the virus then come fall there may not be enough immunity among the people to foil another fla re-up.

There are many projections that have COVID19 killing more Americans than Spanish Flu. It’ll be years before we know how many die but it could easily be 1 million+.
We will have treatments by then ... hopefully.
