This post provides a timeline of the ChiCom Virus thus far.

Here’s an interactive map of States issuing stay at home orders. It has dates for state actions.

I’m not going to break out most state actions in the timeline below. I’m focusing on responses from the President and the federal government. I am staying away from politics for the most part and I am not reporting fake news. There are a lot of tweets from the President. That should give you some context as to what he is thinking.

There are some things to consider when reading the timeline. 1. The number of cases in the US. This is given on each date. 2. What the president can do constitutionally. 3. A lot of responsibilities fall on the states and private sector.

December 31, 2019 – Total number of COVID-19 cases in the USA (CDC): 0

Wuhan Government: (linked page is in Mandarin) confirms it is treating dozens of pneumonia cases of unknown cause. This is reported in the in the United States on Jan. 6.

January 6, 2020 – Total number of COVID-19 cases in the USA (CDC): 0

New York Slimes: China Grapples With Mystery Pneumonia-Like Illness

59 people have been sickened by a pneumonia-like illness in Wuhan.

January 11, 2020 – Total number of COVID-19 cases in the USA (CDC): 0

New York Slimes: China Reports First Death from New Virus

41 people have confirmed cases in China. One death. There is no evidence the virus can be spread between humans.

WHO Situation Report

As of 20 January 2020, 282 confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV have been reported from four countries including China (278 cases), Thailand (2 cases), Japan (1 case) and the Republic of Korea (1 case);

Cases in Thailand, Japan and Republic of Korea were exported from Wuhan City, China;

Among the 278 cases confirmed in China, 258 cases were reported from Hubei Province, 14 from Guangdong Province, five from Beijing Municipality and one from Shanghai Municipality;

New York Slimes: Wuhan, Center of Coronavirus Outbreak, Is Being Cut Off by Chinese Authorities

Chinese authorities on Thursday morning closed off Wuhan — a city of more than 11 million people and the epicenter of a pneumonia-like virus that has spread halfway around the world — by canceling planes and trains leaving the city, and suspending buses, subways and ferries within it.

CNN Wire: Experts say wearing masks likely won't help avoid coronavirus in US

But in the US, there's no need to wear surgical masks -- or the N95 respirators physicians wear when treating viruses -- says infectious disease expert Dr. Charles Chiu.

There's no evidence of sustained novel coronavirus transmission in the US like there is in China, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not recommended Americans wear masks in public. "Right now, there's no evidence that [wearing face masks] is going to help prevent that infection," Chiu, a professor of laboratory medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, told CNN. "I would not recommend that someone in the US who does not have direct exposure, did not recently travel to China...or in general that you go buy a face mask."

About 100 cases have been confirmed across 21 other countries, including seven reported cases in the United States. March 5, 2020 – Total number of COVID-19 cases in the USA (CDC): 164

NPR: Coronavirus: Italy Imposes Quarantine On 16 Million; U.S. Sees 1st East Coast Deaths

All told, the number of confirmed cases in the U.S. is well over 300 — 19 of whom have died, mostly in Washington state. At least 14 people who died were associated with one nursing home near Seattle, according to the public health department of Seattle and King County. Health authorities in Washington say they have confirmed 102 cases of the coronavirus in the state.

On March 20, the White House Coronavirus Task Force said it was closing the border with Mexico to any nonessential travel, beginning March 21. The measure came days after President Trump announced that the United States and Canada were closing their border by mutual decision. The border with Canada closed on March 21.
