Not so...If you don’t cash your check and/or your bank account closes...they look into it. My friend’s husband died and those checks stopped immediately.

Then how do these adult children keep getting checks for years and casing them long after mom is gone?.........There was a case here not long ago...................

When my dad died, a hospital admin type went over cause of death, info for funeral director, death certificate costs, etc. I asked if they had a number to call Social Security to notify them of his death. She replied, "Oh, don't worry about that honey. We already notified them."

When you die the issuance of the death certificate is transmitted to the SS database. They are really good at shutting down checks.
