Crowds of gawkers ignored New York’s social-distance regulations and packed the west side of Manhattan on Monday to watch a US Navy hospital ship arrive to give badly needed coronavirus aid. The throngs of people stood shoulder to shoulder and took photos of the USNS Comfort as it pulled into Pier 90 near West 50th Street at about 10:40 a.m., photos of the scene show. Some waved American flags and others huddled against one another at the fence of the pier. Meanwhile, joggers out for a morning run brushed past the onlookers.

Saw where they had to dredge the harbor before the ship could get in.

There's pics online with the comfort behind the Statue of Liberty. It's an awesome picture.

Many of them are probably thinking a thing like this can’t happen in America. Well, IT HAS and they ignore it at their peril!

“US Navy hospital ship arrives to give badly needed coronavirus aide.”

I guess that’s technically correct. As I understand it the navy hospital ship is to take in NON covid19 cases to take the pressure of of the conventional hospitals.

8-9 million people, not working, in 300 sq mi area, and a novelty occurrence. Did you really believe they’d stay home? Did you think they’d maintain their distance? Jeez! What about this is a mystery?

to give badly needed coronavirus aid.

Does anyone know if NYC area hospitals are actually being “overwhelmed”? Is there any data on the number of available beds, ICU beds, etc., as compared to any other flu season? Yeah, I know, however many thousands of COVID-19 “cases” there are in NYC... But how many actual necessary hospitalizations have there been, and how does it compare to normal rates, and how “full” are the hospitals?

And I’m really not interested in, “Well, if we don’t all stay shut in our homes until June (or is it until July yet?), hospitals will be “overwhelmed.” I’m looking for some actual data, and not “projections” or “worst-case” scenarios.

Well we have CBS pretending hospital scenes in Italy are actually NYC hospitals so there is that.

They sure are not being overwhelmed in West Virginia...

Beds empty, revenues slowed at hospitals in West Virginia; CAMC announces hours reduction measures (CAMC=Charleston Area Medical Center)

Talk about unintended consequences!

So, where is the mayor and the governor to stop this clear violation of their rules.

I assume we’ll see Trump blamed for sending this ship and making a big deal of it.

Well, hospitals are closed for ordinary inpatient and outpatient services due to CV, so that is effectively the same as being overwhelmed by CV in my opinion.
