Firstly, I apologize if my format is off. I am not a regular poster, but have been a daily reader for over 20 years.
This was the only place I could think of that may help me answer a question I have.
I was told a story by a friend of mine that is a nurse on a respiratory floor full of Covid-19 patients in Michigan.
My friend had open heart surgery last year and feels she is at high risk.
She requested a transfer to a different floor which was denied by management.
She responded that due to the risk, the denial of transfer means she would have to quit to protect herself.
Management threatened her with legal action if she quit due to the State of Emergency declared by our Governor.
Is there any legal action the hospital can take?
Thank you in advance.
Tough times, tough choices. She has legal remedies available, but she will pay another kind of price if she keeps her job at the same hospital. Coworkers may have a different view of her request to change floors.
Here in Florida our governor and surgeon general have advised everyone 65 and over and people in “at risk” categories to stay home for two weeks. There are many HCW’s in hospitals who are over 65. I doubt the government is expecting THEM to stay home and I’m certain the hospitals aren’t. A no win situation.

Well, we’re either serious about taking care of people, or we’re not.
Makes no difference if it’s a virus or another illness.
Yes, a no win situation.
My wife is an ER nurse in Metro Detroit. She is at the hospital now.
Many people are stepping up. God Bless America.
Recovery after open heart surgery more than a year ago may not place her in a high risk category for COVID-19. That risk has been listed as compromised immune system or compromised lung function. If she has neither, she may not be “high risk”.
