When COVID-19 is gone will we get our freedom back?
Deep state mission being accomplished.
Haven’t seen any such powerful evidence
Yall can fight it by EVERYONE young and old- going out and defying his order- not enough prisons and jails to house everyone-
Love Peter Hitchens. He always looks behind the curtain of societal trends, fads and political manias.
Trifecta...freedom shot, economy shot, and thousands sick/dead. What more could a democrat ask for?
Hitchens may be correct.
i am an old submariner, most folks would go nuts in that environment, no sanctuary, no privacy, ever.
i tend to be a solitary guy, even i after a mission had a ritual of going far into the desert alone for a few days to get away from people.
that said, this isolation is killing me.
You think people in a time of crisis would pull together for the common cause. That there is a common good that transcends politics. I don’t see it with Pelosi and many in the media. Pelosi crammed hundreds of millions for the Kennedy Center and the next thing you hear is that they are firing musicians; she is saying that there will be an investigation that Trump didn’t act soon enough; Chuck Todd is asking if the president has blood on his hands; and on and on.
These people are unreasonable and impervious to facts. Not only that they will never see any good in Trump. Trump has experience a silent coup and four years of abuse from the left and yet, unlike England, there is no mass arrest. These perpetrators (more like perpetual traitors) walk around free of any consequences for their criminal actions. But there is a time when enough is enough and it has happened in the past when they use to arrest and hang traitors. That moment might come again... hopefully, the American public will vote Trump back in and the left, despite their bitter harangues and calls for impeachment again, will sink into the irrelevance of oblivion. And hopefully they will stay there. They are full of sound and fury signifying NOTHING.
I think right now people are giving government the benefit of doubt. But our patience will start to run out around Easter. I think we can open things up by then. Maybe allow churches open again but with 100 people maximum. No shaking hands. No hugs.
Some people are like that. That doesn't mean that their opinion is wrong, just that they don't know how to express themselves any better - or don't want to.
Drama queen.

PETER HITCHENS: Theres powerful evidence this Great Panic is foolish, yet our freedom is still broken and our economy crippled

As I watched the Prime Minister order mass house arrest on Monday night, I felt revulsion, anger and grief as anyone brought up when this was a free and well-governed country would. I also felt terribly alone.
You could not have known, from anything broadcast that night or printed the following day, that anyone was unhappy with these events. But they were. So, above all things this week, I would like to thank all the kind, perplexed people who have got in touch with me by so many means, to say they share my doubts about the Governments handling of Covid-19. There are, in fact, many of us. If you feel this way, you are nothing like as solitary as you think.
Next, I would like to thank all those who disagree with me, who choose to abuse me, often with lies, personal smears and swearwords. Your childish, intolerant reaction has strengthened me in my conviction that mine is the better case.
If your policy is so good, why can you not defend it like civilised adults? Do you really think that I regret needless deaths any less than you? Can you not accept that I also have good motives? I now suspect this dark season might get still worse before we see the clear, calm light of reason again.
The greater the mistake we have made, the less willing we are to admit it or correct it. This is why I greatly fear worse developments in the coming few days. When I predicted roadblocks in my column two weeks ago, which I did, I did so out of an instinct that we were entering on the craziest period of our lives. And now there are such roadblocks, officious, embarrassing blots on our national reputation.

I see both sides. If a pandemic carried off everyone over the age of 75, there would be an awful lot of sad talking and slow walking by the majority of the population who had lost their parents or grandparents (not including me; Im older than that).OTOH the economy - and the value of the dollar - can only stand so much. We desperately need useful medicine and the ability to detect carriers of the virus.
Headline says it all. Many on our side keep on changing diapers.
Has he blamed it all on Trump yet?
