Those hotels will lose future biz from this. Not from the WuFlu, but from the stigma created by catering to selfish expletives-deleted.

If you could afford it and it was your family, wouldn’t you?

If your hotel bookings cratered, you could get a clean, upscale family and keep your staff employed, wouldn’t you?

I don’t care if they go to rental homes. I’d probably do the same thing under the circumstances, if I had one. How is that different from going to another location, e.g., your second home or a rental home, if you knew a hurricane were headed your way? When the last big hurricane was headed for Florida a couple of Octobers ago, many FReepers were desperate to find a place where they could go.

As far as the hotels — it’s creepy and selfish to hog an entire floor or entire hotel, but free enterprise exists. People who do that are bad people who care about no one but themselves, and they’re that way every day of their lives. They’ll answer for it in other ways another day.

So what? Good for them. They’re spending money, keeping hotels and businesses afloat, and protecting their families. They have the means, let them spend their money. It helps businesses stay afloat.

It’s not like they’re frolicking on the beach and licking toilets.

Good for them, I don’t give a crap about some UK paper stoking class envy. In fact the UK has always been class-obsessed.

And some here are too, elevating Hollywood into some kind of populist royalty, with politicians not far behind (”the ugly royals”).

why? If they own or have access to multiple properties, why can’t they use them? I know plenty of people that own a vacation property and rent them out when they’re not using them. Why waste it?

If a family wants to wait this crap out in a nice place by the water and they pay for it, what’s the big deal. If I had a place near the beach, away from the throngs of TP hoarding idiots, I would send my wife and kids there ASAP.

Now I understand that FL and points south like NC don’t want the libs bringing the Kung Flu, but it’s a free country and you can’t stop them from accessing their own property.

That said, they should stay home and rot in the liberal sewers they created IMO.

The employed staff is likely not quarantined at the hotel along with the guests. This is a rotten idea. Paul LePage wouldn’t have allowed it.

My wife and I stayed at the Cape Arundel Inn many years ago.

It's a beautiful section of Maine. The Bush compound has made Kennebunkport world famous, but most locals just want a peaceful life.

Not everyone who lives there is super rich, but the town does have a lot or rich people who own summer homes there. There are locals with small businesses and modest homes. The town caters to tourism, of course.

I can afford the stay there. Can you?

I’m still in NY, BTW.

If that area follows the pattern in ME these days a lot of the young’uns have bugged, lots of illegals doing the seasonal jobs, and locals left are older. Exactly the people put at increased risk from WuFlu.

What part of this statement sounds "American"?

In the 19th Century the New York City rich fled town every summer to avoid nasty infections.

They hired a private security service to watch over their brownstones.

Small world:) I grew up there, worked at the Cape Arundel Inn before college. You would not believe the world elite that went there, very nonchalant.

My dad still lives there and I visit a few times a month. Interesting photo, I think that is my old Xterra parked on the right just outside of Alison's :)
