Even those with a family to feed can be still for two weeks if it means protecting our first responders. Especially with money in the mail. Food delivery and distribution to food banks kicking into gear and hopefully local grocers remain open. Stay home and eat. Learn a new skill. If (most of) Calif can do it, NYC should be able to ace it. We get out of this and jobs will be raining.
I was using “family to feed” to cover all the expenses of a wage earner who has a wife and children. If the boss isn’t paying them while they are out, it’s a big, big problem. People are closer to the edge these days.
There's a bad assumption. Lots of people aren't getting money in the mail. I'm one of them and my current contract runs out of money on April 17th. I'm getting a layoff notice on April 3rd as a "courtesy" two week notice. That's loyalty for putting in 70 hour weeks to rescue a project (for 40 hours pay...salaried, of course).
