China has been promoting bear bile as a coronavirus treatment, upsetting wildlife activists.
In a list published earlier this month, China’s National Health Commission recommended a number of treatments for the symptoms of the virus, including both traditional Chinese and Western remedies.
The treatment is an injection called Tan Re Qing (TRQ), which is a traditional Chinese medicine formula. In addition to bear bile powder, the injection uses goat horn and dried fruit.
The injection can help to alleviate respiratory distress, particularly in cases of pneumonia and bronchitis. One of the major symptoms of the coronavirus is a dry cough and difficulty breathing. …

Before anyone gets too excited by this, it is important to remember that all cultures are equal. In fact, non-Western cultures are probably superior and that disparaging a culture’s belief system is racist. So get some bear bile and enjoy a hearty bowl of bat soup.

Yup. The entire bear bile row at my local store is now empty. First they take the bat soup away from us and now this.
I remember a National Geographic article several years ago about the declining numbers of black bears in and around the Smokies. Seems as if the Chinese shaman had convinced the locals to kill them for two things - their gall bladder to make some sort of Spanish fly and their paws to make some sort of soup. Let’s say they were paid something like $200 here for the wares and by the time it got to China, it was worth like $20,000. Kind of like the ivory trade.
