Now now now, Cletus. It’s not so bad here in Michistan. We just have a few rules...easy to follow.
The Upper Peninsula has closed the Mackinaw Bridge. They let down those grates in the passing center lanes...and turned over the toll booths. They want to keep us “trolls” (as in, we live under the bridge) on our side of Lakes Michigan and Huron.
And the military guys who were doing their training at Camp Grayling have moved down to Clare and all points east and west of Clare. That’s the line where the downstaters have to show their drivers license to prove they actually live “up north”.
And we who live “up north” are telling our downstate relative what back roads, 2-tracks and cow pastures to use to get thru the National Forests to get back “home”.
Nah, it’s not so bad. OH, but wait...Gretchen promised she’d “fix the damn roads”. She didn’t. Maybe she’s spazzing out because she doesn’t want downstate to find out that the interstates downstate are the only roads that got fixed. Up here, we rate the pothole by how many axels broke in it!
So you’re a Yooper, eh? :)
Beautiful area, the UP. For a few years, we would drive up to Hessel from Ohio, and spend Labor Day weekend visiting the scenery (and chillin’ on the dock, and in the cabins). Winter starts a little earlier in the UP than it does in Cleveland!
But. but, but
You and I only have 3 weeks, 4 weeks tops, to “fix our State.”.

Hi Blu —
Would you recommend the UP as a good place to retire?
Signed,
