The US now has more confirmed cases of coronavirus than any other country with at least 82,404 positive tests.
According to the latest figures collated by Johns Hopkins University, the US overtook China (81,782 cases) and Italy (80,589).
The grim milestone came as President Donald Trump predicted the nation would get back to work "pretty quickly", after 3.3 million layoffs.
More than 1,100 people with Covid-19 have died in the US.

With performance numbers like that ... surely China would want to share with the world the most effective way to shut down the Wuhan virus. Right WHO? Right CDC? Bet neither organization speaks out against China.
freakin hilarious. Crab rangoon or whatever.....LOL
No. Plus it shows the US is doing a lot of testing
Watts Up With That has been posting log charts of deaths per ten million population: https://wattsupwiththat.com/daily-coronavirus-covid-19-data-graph-page/#001
I believe this also shows that Chinese total death data is bogus. The South Koreans’ plan to test early and frequently must be paying off. Too bad our CDC, aka Coronavirus Distribution Center, didn’t duplicate their test.
Best self proclaimed health care system in the world.
The crap is spreading across the nation.
People are not paying much attention to the guidelines around here. There is more traffic on the highway today than most normal days.
As for the supply chain? Well, there is a hell of a lot of stuff not on the shelves. Tried to fill out a walmart pick up order last night. “Out of stock” was as common as what they have and what they have is not common to what you actually need. You choose what you can get.
I’m reminded of Jack Handy and “good thoughts” more than the truth.
“You may kiss the bride now”
“Coronavirus: US overtakes China with most cases”
that’s what happens when you overtake the rest of the world with testing ... of course cases don’t matter anyhway except to prove that the cat is out of the bag and a shitpile of people are walking around with a bad cold or flu-like illness from COVID-19, and that we should just get back to work ... the only thing that matters is the number of deaths and hospitalization and whether their RATE of growth is increasing or declining ...
I dont believe a damned ounce of spewage from the ChiComs. They can screw themselves.
“... the only thing that matters is the number of deaths and hospitalization and whether their RATE of growth is increasing or declining ...”
Agree. I guess we get to find out what the real hospitalization/ICU/Death rates become as the virus starts going to town on us.
Bullsh!t.
There’s no way we have 21 million cases.
Nobody knows how many were infected. The comparison between different countries is impossible because of the different approaches to diagnosis and the statistic counts.
“” “” Bullsh!t.
Theres no way we have 21 million cases.”” “”
Why it is said to be more contagious than flu. And I just can’t see how the imposed measured would stop the it from affecting in exceed of half the population.
Everyone here acts like the China numbers matter.
China’s got a lot more people to burn through than the US.
They know statistically that they’ll out-survive us, whatever disease they cook up. I’m sure that thinking went into them getting into this, in the first place.
Trump is right. He’s a war-time President.
“Apparently these tests are being shipped from China to various European, and M.E. nations...”
China’s on a war footing. No one is going to know what is happening with this disease except China.
Is anyone betting yet on Chinese flu vs shooting deaths?
Uh - China lies, China lies
NYC had 53,006 deaths from all causes in 2014
NYC had 2,220 deaths from Influenza and Pneumonia in 2014
https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Health/New-York-City-Leading-Causes-of-Death/jb7j-dtam
Another rough estimate for number of deaths in NYC every year,
from Quora - 1 death every 9 minutes, 158 per day, 57,000 per year
https://www.quora.com/How-many-people-die-in-New-York-every-day
So on average roughly 158 people die in NYC every day and 2220/100 = 22 die every day of influenza and pneumonia every day assuming a 100 day flu season.
For overall deaths there is very little seasonality. March is 108% of the average death rate for the year.
http://www.legacy.com/news/culture-and-trends/article/yes-its-true-more-people-die-in-january
90% of NYS deaths from Covid19 so far were in New York City
https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/new-york-coronavirus-cases-updates.html
There were 100 Covid19 deaths in NYS 3-26 so about 90 in NYC - (and 81 yesterday 3-25) compared to 158 deaths from all causes on an average day and 22 deaths from flu on an average day during flu season.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
There is no way to avoid or rationalize these facts. Covid19 is at least 4 times as deadly as the seasonal flu - even though we have put the entire city on quarantine, it is killing 4 times as many people each day as seasonal flu does on average. This is not data from Wuhan or 50 years ago. Just watch the NYC daily deaths and you will know whether to worry. If you are in Idaho that’s great, I’m happy for you.
Your 2014 numbers are consistent with my point. Using your numbers, 4% of the total deaths in New York in 2014 were caused by flu. This number would be realistic when you consider they live right on top of each other.
An article from the below source in December 2019, two plus months before C-19 was identified in the US, let alone New York, it stated:
“Between October 1, 2019, and December 7, 2019, there have been up to 3.7 million cases of the flu, between 23,000 to 41,000 hospitalizations, and approximately 1,300 to 3,300 flu-related deaths, according to the CDC”
https://www.healthline.com/health-news/what-to-know-about-the-flu-season-right-now
So in 3 months in the last quarter of calendar 2019, NY City had another flu just as bad or worse than the one they are looking at right now.
Flu is flu. This strand is no different than other flues that cause both upper and lower tract infections like, in the past 50 years, H1N1 and H7N9/HPAI. And many of the other ones, without care, turned into additional bacterial infections that acted the same. The only reason NY City shows the numbers they do is because of their immense population piled together which is easily understood will happen. It’s not the numbers that are the problem. The numbers are the result of the problem. They have been in denial of the flu, and now want help. Same thing has happened before.
Here’s an article from health and fitness that might support that the flu and the C-19 are to different animals from the same cave:
https://patch.com/new-york/new-york-city/flu-bigger-threat-nyc-coronavirus-experts-say
They were more worried about the existing fly than c-19.
