He isn’t the real Curly. Curly died years before Moe.

I think it is “Sweet Georgia Brown?” RIP Curly. Only names I remember are Curly & Meadowlark Lemon (& Wilt Chamberlain who I forgot was a HG).

To stay in shape (and to make money in off-season) the Harlem Globe Trotters had a softball team that toured the country in the summer months.

They played everywhere across the fruited plain...including the suburban Chicago stadium (Forest Park, Illinois) where I played a couple years of womens' professional fast-pitch softball.

Our team's owner always had a novelty baseball game as openers for our evening womens' baseball game to really pack the hometown stadium....some old-timers may remember "The King and His Court", "Pete Gray, the One-Armed Softball Pitcher", "Donkey Baseball"...and of course, these baseball novelties along with the Globe Trotters were some of the teams that paired with ours for the evening's double-headers.

If you thought the Harlem Clown Princes were adept at comedy basketball, you should have seen them at softball. They came with their own guys dressed as legitimate umps, the ball they used was large and soft (so they couldn't blow it out of the park all the time)...they played good local men's softball teams who were their foils but who never won despite their best efforts.....and the routines the Trotters used (fake fights with the umpires, hilarious antics on the bases, antics when sliding and when pitching) - it was artful comedy the likes of which you'll never see again.

Their baseball skills were just as authentic and amazing as their basketball skills. Many of the Globe Trotters had semi-pro baseball pasts.

Those were the days, my friend...too bad they had to end. We'll never see the likes of the many-talented athletes like Meadowlark, Goose, Curly and Sweetwater again.

Didn’t the globetrotters star in their own movie about themselves (black and white) back in the 60s?

"The Harlem Globetrotters" is a 1951 sports drama about the team. It was produced by Columbia Pictures.

It starred Thomas Gomez as Abe Saperstein (owner of the Trotters) and famous black star, Dorothy Dandridge....as well as some of the team players playing themselves.

Unfortunately, the film has never been released to U.S. television.

I’ve been watching this kid on Youtube who plays street ball exhibitions and tour games. Reminds me a lot of Harlem Globe Trotter moves.

Meadowlark Lemon, married and father of 10 children, passed away in 2015 at the age of 83.

He was also an actor and an ordained Christian minister.

Wilt Chamberlain called Lemon "the greatest basketball player of all time".

Since you're an expert on charity, not basketball, maybe you should practice some.

Ya’ might also want to polish up on your ad-hominem attacks. They're pretty lame and way beneath most Freepers.
