UK Government Downgrades Coronavirus as No Longer Highly Dangerous
Just days before U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a nationwide lockdown to contain the coronavirus epidemic, health officials in Britain quietly lowered the official threat level for the pandemic, saying the COVID-19 virus did not meet the criteria to qualify as a high consequence infectious disease (HCID).Five days later, Mr. Johnson who critics say was slow to respond the global pandemic said in a national address that Britons faced a moment of national emergency and ordered U.K. residents to stay in their homes and limited public activities and nonessential businesses for the next three weeks at least.
Through Wednesday morning, according to government figures, Britain reported 9,529 positive cases of coronavirus out of just over 97,000 people tested and 463 virus-related deaths.
Skeptics of the severity of the virus have promoted the March 19 move on Twitter as proof that doomsday scenarios and severe economic measures being implemented worldwide are an overreaction. (Washington Times)
For the UK from the 23rd to the 24th:
Fatality rate (confirmed vs dead) : 4.83%
Confirmed Increase: 18.10%
Dead increase: 10.17%

Greta Thunberg Mode: ON
How dare you fact-check this sir! How dare you!
Greta Thunberg Mode: OFF
Turns out it was legit except the title was a bit sensetionalist.
You are misinterpreting what is going on here. A High Consequence Infectious Disease is a disease that is not only highly infectious it has a high mortality rate. The most well known example of a disease with a high mortality rate is rabies. If you get rabies and don’t get immediate treatment you are going to die. In all of recorded medical history there has only been one case where that didn’t happen, so it is essentially 100%. One that is highly infectious and famous is Ebola. Remember the pictures of Ebola patients coming into the USA? Everybody around them looked like they were getting ready for a moon walk and they had to go to specialized treatment centers. The entire United Kingdom only has 2 hospitals certified to treat those kinds of diseases.
Covid-19, the Wuhan variety, is highly contagious but odds are you will live through it even if you don’t get treatment. Even Italy, which (if you believe Chinese propaganda) is the hardest hit, has a death rate of less than 10%. That is why they downgraded it. Now if you do get the Wuhan Flu in the UK you can go to a regular emergency room or clinic for treatment. That’s it in a nutshell, a medical definition.
I believe we would see a comparable chart from the U.S. as shown for Italy. However the fearmonger news media and those in government who are out to destroy the Trump presidency will not provide this data.
Yes, but how many are actually symptomatic? Statistics showing about 80% of those w/ a positive test are asymptomatic and a smaller % requiring hospitalization and a even smaller % requiring life saving treatment/interventions (intubation/ventilator).
The oxford study did NOT find that 50% have the virus.
THe oxford study showed that, IF 50% had the virus, the model would still match the known case load. It was a mathematical thing to show that our current measurements do not lead to a single conclusion.
It was issued from the Ministry of Silly Walks.
I also think it means highly infectious, it sounds like NHS has special treatment centers for that class of illness, and now they have decided that the risk for treatment at normal hospitals is not high enough to restrict treatment to the specialized hospitals.
From the article...
The British government has downgraded the coronavirus from being an acute infectious disease with a high case fatality rate. After reviewing the data, they have come to their senses. Moreover, a study released by Oxford finds that perhaps 50% of those in the UK have the virus and the overwhelming number experience it like the normal flu and have little symptoms. The study suggests that fewer than one in a thousand of those infected with COVID-19 become ill enough to need hospitalization. So why the hysteria? There is some other agenda here!
According to the article it is no more dangerous than the common flu...
What they should be doing is making random checks on groups of people to see how many have the virus and don't know it...What percentage of the population has the virus??? They won't because they don't want you to know...
Yep, sensationalist title.
Until serology tests are started no one, not Her Majesty’s Govt, not the governor of New York, can say that there are 100s of 1000s of people walking around who had this virus. That’s conjecture.
The source does not show data in terms of being symptomatic but it does show that 98% of cases are in “mild condition”.
Nonetheless, the rising number and trend of cases is noteworthy. A week ago there were 55 deaths. Today that number has risen to 465.
No argument it’s significant, however, I’d like to compare that against the number of deaths on a daily basis of other conditions/circumstances...We’re so focused on the COVID 19 #s, we’re ignoring other numbers that are at the same or even higher levels, but yet we don’t shut down the entire country’s economy to deal with it. We’re trying to apply a one size fits all approach to a very diverse (regarding population density and overall health) country.
