No I can not make a you tube video. I am techno challenged and do well to find a video to watch.

I bet someone has made a video though—just do a search. LOL

I knew the toilet paper would go fast, but didn’t really think the flour would.

A friend of mine outside of Philly said they have no sugar on the shelves. That's crazy. We still have plenty here outside Baltimore. Did not notice whether there is flour here, since thankfully I have enough in the pantry.

I read an article last week that explains the flour outages. The panic hoarders are making their own bread. There’s not a bread machine for sale anywhere now. LOL. Not that this is a bad thing mind you.

Also many seed companies have shounted ‘uncle’ and shut down for a while to work through backlog.

I buy good cocoa powder in bulk and it lasts forever, stored in a cool place. Same thing with baking chocolate. No problem. And I don’t use eggs at all so that problem is solved.

If anyone wants to know the source of excellent dutched cocoa powder, last price was $5 a pound (had to get I think 20#) let me know.

The sugar shelf was empty at the beginning but it has since been restocked.

The owner of the little local store has been keeping a small stock of things only for locals. If he knows you, and everyone knows everyone around here at least by sight, and you come in and need something he will either pull it out of the back room or put your name on the list. When the shipment comes in he sets it aside for you.

I think he could run for government supervisor, (sort of our equivalent of a mayor) and win in a landslide.

It's a bit on the lean side maybe but no one is doing without.

I’d love to know your source for Cocoa! Now is the Dutch Coco the one that you need to bloom or the natural cocoa?

Dutched cocoa has been treated with an alkali and it is thus tastier and less acidic, I’ve had all kinds of cocoa and the dutched kind is much better.

Aha, I did a quick search and found where I ordered it, I did split some with a friend. Free shipping with orders over $100.

This is the best kind according to my choco-holic friend, cocoa rouge, hmm it says out of stock but probably in soon, not exactly a prepper item.

I had to look it up :-) I have seen it done and recipes and I may have done it twice my whole life. It was just a little messy.

https://www.thekitchn.com/bloom-your-cocoa-powder-we-tried-it-240457

What It Means to Bloom Cocoa Powder
When cocoa powder is “bloomed” it’s mixed with a hot liquid, stirred well to break up any lumps, and then left to sit for a minute or two. The cocoa powder dissolves, which thickens the liquid and releases flavor particles within the powder. This technique brings out the best in cocoa powder and unleashes its ultra-chocolatey potential.

So, What Does This Mean for Your Desserts?
It means there are very, very good things ahead, fellow chocolate-lovers! Recipes for brownies, cakes, and beyond that call for cocoa powder to be bloomed, translate into bigger, more intense chocolate flavor in the finished baked good.

Thanks, I know I’ll have fun browsing that site!

Honeyville grains has Dutch cocoa stored for Preppers! 3 to 5-year shelf life. However it is also out of stock. Seems like cocoa is a necessity during a pandemic.

That’s great. I’m glad people are starting to see the need for being self-sufficient.

I would like to see a video of that also! LOL

I can’t really imagine where I would do that. Maybe the living room.

I found some fairly inexpensive butter at Sam’s Club today. I was excited to see it so I can practice canning. it’s in 1 lb blocks, so it was slightly reduced from the regular butter price.

Wow, that is expensive! The Sweet Treats place is 20# for $130 which is much less a pound, just have to buy a lot, plus they have free shipping. I think cocoa keeps very well, and the Guittard (sp?) cocoa rouge is top notch.

What’s the regular butter price where you are? DH got a bunch yesterday for about $2.85 or so, also a lot of unsweetened to make ghee.

It is pricey. At one time I bought a large number 10 can of cocoa, can’t remember exactly where from. I assumed this was the same thing but I went back to me after you commented and it’s only 8 oz.

I ended up stealing some cocoa in mylar myself. There’s not too many things that aren’t cheaper to do yourself.

This website says that cocoa keeps indefinitely. I didn’t know that! But you pretty much said it already :-)

At Sam’s Club it was $2.39 a lb, for the regular butter that has four sticks per pound. But you have to buy for a pound to get that price. I did get some at Aldis for $2.49. I don’t know what the regular prices because I never pay it. I liked it when I could buy it for $1.99 a pound. Same for ground beef. I may not see those numbers again. :-(

Preppers, once mocked, say they were ready for coronavirus crisis

https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3826044/posts

I was out today trying to buy some toilet paper for a disabled neighbor. Couldn’t find anything but the super expensive. My husband asked if we needed any. I said what do you think? IHe said “It’s finally paid off all the prepping you’ve been doing.”

Finally!!!!
