A 40th gathering in Connecticut has been dubbed 'party zero' after guests became infected and spread coronavirus across several states and the around the world. About 50 guests reportedly gathered on March 5 at a home in the wealthy suburb of Westport for a lavish buffet and celebration. After the event, roughly half of those at the party became infected with the disease, then transmitted it to other states and the rest of the world. According to the New York Times, guests left that evening for Johannesburg, New York City, other parts of Connecticut and the wider US. One of the guests was a 43-year-old South African businessman who started to feel ill during his flight home.

What about the 14 day incubation period? They all attended the party and one fell ill on his flight home?

Something smells in Denmark on this one folks

I raised an eyebrow at that myself.

Selfish, self centered bastards.

They may well be, but March 5, seems like a very long time ago. This time last week, I was scheduled to sub at my local school. It was only a week ago today that all of our county schools closed. And today we got our first Wuhan case. Our state, MO, is still on social distancing, but I feel like we’ve been on lockdown for at least a month!

Just noticed today that commercials are starting to acknowledge ‘the present circumstances’. Car dealers are saying you can shop on line and cars will be delivered to your home.

The thing that apparently makes the Wuhan, China virus so dangerous is that people are spreading it before they begin to feel ill.

The Incubation Period is not a hard and fast number.

The time between infection and onset of symptoms is host dependent.

The incubation period published for COVID-19 is between 1 and 12.5 days.

If the infected person is a perfect host for the disease the incubation period is short and if the person is resistant to the disease it is longer.

This why the self-quarantine period is 14 days for those suspected of exposure to the virus. After 14 days they are assumed to not have the disease.

Money, yes, but also famously liberal. At one time had an artsy flavor too.

Makes sense that he could have infected the others if he was already that far along. Sounds like he wad a jetsetter anf probably caught it originally in an airport or on a flight.

Greenwich is an obvious one with all the NYC train commuters right over the border from Westchester.

Westport not as close to Westchester and only about half the population of Greenwich.

This makes for a good story, but as some of you have pointed out - the “gotcha” is questionable. Could have been earlier, at the party or later.

Same goes for the Spring Breakers.

Baseball players run fast
Rabbits run fast
Ergo baseball players are rabbits or is it rabbits are baseball players?

This makes for a good story

I was thinking earlier that this party in the swank town of Westport makes for a great opening scene for a Sci-Fi movie.

“...and very Green-wich. Go figure!”

What do you know about Greenwich? A very large portion of it is pretty darn blue collar. Don’t take my word for it - do a google street view tour of the Byram section (Sherman Ave, Henry St...). Most people can’t believe it until they see it. Yes there are wealthy parts but it is about 100x more economically diverse than Westport. And before dumping on any of these towns, keep in mind that they literally fund the entire crappy state. Anyway, the Greenwich figures are inflated because it is a border town and sick people from the Bronx and Westchester (NY) make the short drive to Greenwich Hospital because it is a much nicer facility than their own hospitals.

Besides testing positive, what is the health status of the 25 guests who caught the bug? Apparently those facts no one wanted to know.

Majority develop symptoms about 5 days post infection. Very possible this guy had it before coming or even flew with mild symptoms and passed it along to others.
