If they didnt want people coming they should have bought the properties themselves.
= = =
Maybe they could not afford to.
Maybe increasing property values (and taxes) will drive out the locals.
“F/... you killed Cptn Cook”
Way to hold a grudge, I salute you.
Regardless of you feelings the summer people have just as much right to use their property as the year round residents. They bought it and pay taxes on it and therefore have the right to enjoy it whenever they want. Their property rights are just as valid as the rights of the locals.
So you have the egalitarian viewpoint that just because someone cant afford something the still have a right to control how its used?
They bought those homes legally and they should be allowed to go there anytime they damn well please.
Piss on the locals, seriously.
These are not normal Summer folks.
These are folks from up North who want to avoid the shutdown in New York.
They will bring/take their disdain and illnesses down into the other areas.
Cannot blame the locals.
How much is YOUR health worth? Or your child’s?
That’s where the locals are coming from....
This is in the UK.....................
People who own second homes pay taxes on them and support the local economy through maintenance of those homes and seasonal use. I disagree with those who would banish those owners in the off season. That said, the people who retreat to their vacation homes bear a responsibility to do so with regard to their neighbors. In the current situation, that means self-quarantining upon arrival and transporting a supply of food and household supplies from their main residences. It is unfair to descend upon a small community and clear out the grocery and drug stores upon arrival.
Well, the locals could empty the stores of Toilet Paper and see how long the visitors stay.
I'd be upset too.
Not to be picky, but actually you're not correct. While they may pay the same amount per assessed value in property taxes, non-residents are not allowed to vote in local elections. With local elections, comes the power to make local ordinances, statutes, codes, rules, etc. I could name a few that clearly benefit the local residents over the non-residents, but you seem to be awfully angry on this thread, and I don't want to get your goat.
Ha. I used to own a cabin in central Utah. The locals suck the vacationers for every cent they can. They assess higher taxes. They invent a multitude of building requirements, very expensive. For instance the county suddenly decided to make all cabin owners install 10,000 gallon underground water tanks.
If you buy raw property they construct every barrier possible to keep you from building. Where I had my cabin there is no water or electricity. But you still have to wire your new cabin by code and leave the unconnected wires hanging.
They will see you a building lot where there is no water and no place for a well. And then tell you to eff off. And then tax you and tell you you can’t camp on it. F*** the locals.
And that's what has happened here in our small resort town. The shelves are bare ... For the record we locals really don't have a problem with those who come here for a second home ... our problem is with those who RV here in the desert for free (boondocking) ... no taxes paid there ... or those who come here for the weekend and trash our beaches and the desert. Bulldozers had to be used to clean the beaches from last holiday. RVer are actually ok as long as they dont bring an entitled attitude. Mostly we locals have major problems with those who come here and forget that they are guests. As far as regulating the visitors ... we are now issuing permits for the vacation rentals ... only so many are now allowed ... neighborhoods are for neighbors. Violations can be quite costly. As far as the clown that said "piss on the locals" ... try that here and it wont be the locals that gets pissed on. Minor speeding with a local plate/license here usually renders a warning ... out of area plates/license ... not so much. The cops here are locals too you know. Have an entitled or bad attitude ? This is a small town ... we locals pretty much know each other here. You can't sneeze on the northside with the southside knowing it. Word gets around quick here. Visitor with an attitude says ... Gee the service is slow in this restaurant ... or gee someone rolled a shopping cart into our car ... OOPS. Oh and FYI ... There is not much that will piss a local off quicker than some non-local saying ... your town wouldn't survive without our dollars ... well a good many of us are retirees and don't need nor want your dollar. If half the businesses closed because the visitors went somewhere else many of us would rejoice in having our quaint and quiet town back.
Sedona is where the red rock bluffs are.
Yes. We need to rearrange our economy, too. It’s time to start making more useful products on U.S. soil instead of sucking off of foreign commie nations, rising debt (balance of payments deficits from lopsided foreign trade), tourism and unhealthy vices (like cancer).
I would say, “my bad,” except I did read that part.
My fingers raced ahead of my brain. LOL
Same sentiment, however.
Migration always destroys. Either in the US, or UK. Stay in your own state and die. Don’t head south and destroy another state like New Yorker’s are doing.
So you have the egalitarian viewpoint that just because someone cant afford something the still have a right to control how its used?
= = =
I never said that.
Let’s say I was born and raised in a resort town. Bought a small house a while ago. Got a job in the town and was able to make payments and take care of myself (without welfare).
Then property tax got so high I could not pay that tax along with everything else.
So I guess I cannot afford my own property. And I should not be able to control how I can or cannot use it?
Yeah, I know what you mean. We have a little cottage that I inherited from my great aunt. It's in a depressed area with a beautiful lakefront location. The taxes kill us, but we love the peace and the low-key local people. We are fortunate to live next door to a lovely couple who were close to my great aunt. He is a local elected official who is well known and well regarded. They have advised us countless times on whom to talk to and how to get things done. Everybody knows everybody. We bring them a care package of Italian goodies from our specialty store when we go to the cottage, but it seems so little compared to their neighborly support.
