A high-stakes debate is playing out among key figures in President Trump’s orbit over how quickly to loosen restrictions meant to combat the coronavirus.
A number of people around Trump have pushed for prioritizing the economy and sending people back to work as quickly as possible, particularly in less afflicted areas.
But Trump’s own public health officials and some of his allies on Capitol Hill have warned against risking higher infection rates and deaths for the sake of boosting the economy in the short term.
Sources close to the Trump administration described a “split” in the larger Trump World where some people around the president believe the federal government should ease recommendations on social distancing after the 15-day period while others favor waiting a few more weeks or taking even more dramatic action to stamp out the spread of the virus.
“I think there’s a recognition that there needs to be some sort of medium between listening to the doctors and listening to other experts as well,” the person said. “There really isn’t a perfect answer.”

Of course there is debate there is a lot of unknowns.

There are 16,500 deaths from China Flu to date. Calculate the percentages from Italy, where they were as stupid as they could be, in the name of virtue signaling; and China alone.
I thought FRs were about personal responsibility.

Short term? Was Schumer in the room? We're talking about huge sectors of the economy failing. That won't be short term.
Trump makes the call after 15 days. At that point there has to be some easing with reasonable restrictions for some activities. Rules for nursing homes, encourage social distancing, recommend gathering sizes, allow dining with spacing, etc. people have to get back to work even with risk. We have 10000 plus deaths a year from flu and don’t shut down economy. We have 40,000 deaths per year in car accidents but we don’t close highways.
IMHO, it is broad use of the Overton Window concept. Change the norm and society will change with it.
For the Agenda 21 (now called Agenda 2030) to succeed, our normal liberties must be done away with. The elitists MUST condition us to accept political rule without civil liberties.
I for one will not bend on my God given rights and that these liberties are granted from Him and not some bureaucratic State that dictates who has what and how we should use it.

I would think that state and local (county/parish) health departments have primary jurisdiction to make the call.

Obviously, I am not in charge but were I we would have a very strict isolation this week and next Monday start defining who is “essential”. Return them to work first. Utility workers, truck drivers (never quit, bless them), water works, police (never quit). At first only the most essential. Start letting people who own businesses to bring people back so they can clear away the wreckage and prepare to open for business. Go through a prolonged sequence of de-escalation and lift the isolation on those least able to successfully navigate a contaminated world last. The children. We have to focus on what’s important. Wealth isn’t going to be on the list for a while.

Consider this. Had we started isolation one week sooner we would be just about over the hump now and next week would never have happened. This country wouldn’t have had to go through next week if we had started one week sooner. In fact, had we done what Hong Kong did we would be where they are. Whoever had the bright idea of waiting until it got here screwed us. We should have slammed our borders shut and quarantined the country instead of individual families. But it was “politically incorrect” because they called us racist.
