Three people at a retirement community in Greenport have died from the coronavirus.
A 96-year-old woman who lived at Peconic Landing died Wednesday. A 97-year-woman and a 96-year-old man both died Thursday.
All three people were residents of the "Health Center" portion of the community and had underlying health conditions. Officials say the first case of the virus was discovered there on March 10.
Employees say a part-time worker tested positive for the virus after they were unknowningly exposed.
"It's just unbelievable," says Jim Cunningham of Ridge. "This whole situation seems surreal, it seems like we're in a twilight zone or something like that."
Peconic Landing says 86 people live in the Health Center and 12 more have tested positive for coronavirus. They say 10 of those people are in stable condition, one went to the hospital Friday and one has been in hospice care since before the diagnose.
The coronavirus has not been detected in the 301 independent living residents.
96-97-96. What’s their secret?
Cut down in their prime by this dreadful, unprecedented plague!!! </sarcasm>
I should live so long.

Are these patients doctors treating them with the 6-day Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin drug course. If not, why not?
At that age, a cold can take you out.
They are fortunate to have lived so long.
And yet, those will add to the stats some use to freak people out over the death rate from the virus.
“Whats their secret?”
Apparently it was “don’t catch Coronavirus when you are young.”
Ageism, if you ask me. They've already lived a long life. Save the medicine for the younger set. So goes the mantra of the single-payer medical system.
Don't think this will happen? Check the number of Italians over 70 that are on respirators to combat the effects of Kung Flu.
At that age too many lumps in your cereal can take you out!
Actually, my aunt Anna was pretty strong until the day she died at 96.
They learned their eating habits before fast food garbage became a mainstay.
My mom and aunts and uncles ate/eat the Mediterranean diet..before it had a name :)
Lots of beans and eggplant..a little pasta..a little meat...very little fast food...that’s REAL Italian food.
Once I left mom’s house I ate American Italian food..and it’s been downhill every since :)
this whole thing is just beyond bizarre....when we are claiming 96 yros are victims of a virus ....maybe killing by assault would have made people feel better.....people are insane...
“Health Center” means Assisted Living and Memory Care.
When I used to take my therapy dogs to one, it was the unfortunate fact that several residents would die each month, on average. Many times I crossed paths with our pastor giving last rites.

“a part-time worker tested positive”
Do they say anything else about this person?
often lack of details means an illegal or a muslim.
These types of continuing care facilities are starting to pop up all over the country. You have to enter as a healthy person and buy a small home or apartment, living independently. You pay a high monthly fee. If the time comes that you need a nursing home you are transferred over to the Health Care center.
There is also a tax advantage because your estate will generally get back 75% of the cost of the home or apartment.
The eastern end of Long Island has a large foreign born population due to ground maintenance workers and the wine industry.
This thing will come down to survival of the fittest.

"Ever boddy gotta die of sumpin sumtam!!
