Michigan Chamber of Commerce goes full FluBro:

ALERT: Michigan Chamber of Commerce has come out against a stay-at-home order to combat the spread of #coronavirus.

Chamber CEO @rstudley sent @GovWhitmer this letter: https://t.co/A6WcHdvO6W

Studley warns of the “long term damage” a stay-home order would do to the economy. pic.twitter.com/zMAtN9Nzw7— Chad Livengood (@ChadLivengood) March 21, 2020

I dont drink coffee so dont know anything about them
I was thinking surgical mask which is basically almost worthless because it is so loose...coffee filter outside of it..scarf wrapped around head

I had mask and scarf today..saw a few people with bandanas and one guy had some kind of thing that was pretty fitted but I just glanced..like the bottom of a balacava.

I think I am also going to have to try to reuse the masks. Let them sit for awhile and the virus die out in my car.

I dont forsee the general public getting masks anytime soon unless there is a cure

The nearest one is fifteen miles away in Modesto. OTOH, my favorite rib place is too, and takeout from there remains hot until I get home.

I'll wait until it warms up more before I get takeout from Texas Roadhouse. We'll take chairs, a card table and flatware to eat it in the Roadhouse parking lot.

I wonder what the hell a midnight to 5:00 AM curfew is supposed to do?

“Huge music festival in Mexico City last weekend. Other sources say 100,000 attended. Guns and Roses played per contract.”

3rd wave will come/is coming from Mexico. Good they’re “closing” the border. Should send troops to the unguarded parts now.

I think the dashboard would do a very good job of killing the virus when the sun is out.

Think we can start calling the recycling NAZIs “Dirty Hippies” now?

The same thing TSA is doing, pretending to do something which is supposed to protect the public but only slows things done while honking everyone off.

Do they serve a good steak?

“RE: Italy/Wuhan.”

Yes, I know. Shame on the Chinese for not giving the world a heads-up. So many lives could have been saved.

A survey of the obits (reported here on FR, multiple articles with links to videos and images) that have increased 10-fold in the affected area show mostly Italians, not Chinese, as the deceased.

I thought it would be interesting to see what the media types were telling folks back in January:

https://www.vox.com/2020/1/29/21113282/coronavirus-travel-ban-advisory-china-is-it-safe

Oh, yeah—go to China and don’t worry about it as long as you don’t visit Wuhan.

So, the self-righteous mass media _owns_ this pandemic, as well as _every_ _single_ congressman and senator who were briefed and refused to speak up....

“You might consider”

I was being polite, not knowing which side of the blame game you were on.

“CCP owns the Wuhan Flu.:”

Absolutely. Whether they built it at home or abroad through proxies. I don’t particularly care which, they ought to pay for all the damage they’ve done. Cutting all economic ties, cancelling all debt, kicking out any and all of their citizens including students and nationalizing all their crap here, including seizing the stocks they bought up after causing a global market meltdown would not go far enough in my opinion.

If they did this deliberately to manipulate the global economy (I think they just screwed up and released it accidentally) they should have sanctions on them as well.

The people at your Walmart are smart, keeping their distance. I experienced the same at another local grocery chain.

Regarding my Walmart, I promise that I am not being hyper aware. People are strangely getting really close, nose to nose, when they want assistance. I'm originally from a part of the country and a time when we maintained abundant personal space. I have always been aware of space and different norms as I moved around the country.

“The 20% or 9% doesn’t include those who are asymptotic and, therefore, not tested. For more accurate death rate refer to South Korea where testing is widespread.”

Wow, you’re late to the party.

In SK they did large scale testing and thorough contact tracing. They have more or less contained the virus. Keeping the case numbers low allows them to put more resources on each case and their HCS did NOT collapse like Italy’s has. Their final CFR will be something like 1.2-1.3%. Maybe a little higher as they still have something around 6,400 unresolved cases.

Italy totally screwed the pooch and didn’t even start testing until their HCS was pretty much already saturated. But even though they are not doing widespread testing, they are doing contact tracing.

The DCR comes from confirmed cases, only. Right now that’s interpreted to mean WHO official, but that’s not really correct. If they never go back and test they can’t even get a real CFR, now or in the future. That isn’t what’s happening.

Here’s another FluBro myth I can bust for you: the stats they give on 80% of the cases being mild or asymptomatic is based on contact tracing, not some hypothetical herd of asymptomatic cases that nobody has identified. That’s from an doctor involved in the whole mess in the US mitigation/containment effort. I explicitly asked him when I spoke to him. So that 80% is already counted.

So, the problem isn’t that Italy isn’t testing or that SK tested a gazillion people, the thing that broke Italy was the crash of their HCS. That’s what they seem to be facing in Spain and what happened in Wuhan and Iran. That’s what they maybe fended off in NY, but it looks like LA County is at high risk of a crash.

The next few days will be telling.

“Case fatality rate or CFR is irrelevant. What matters is the percentage of people who die who are infected - much less than 1% due to the asymptomatic people.”

The asymptomatic people are already counted in the confirmed.

The final CFR, when this is over, in SK will be 1.2 to 1.3%, possibly a little higher. That is the best result for a mass infection we have to go by. Can we do better? Possibly. I hope so. Even if a ton of Italians don’t run off to the hospital without showing serious symptoms (fat lot of good it would do them, anyway) they are still contact tracing and they’ll catch many of them through that. They may end up with a bunch of new confirmed cases but many fewer new deaths as a result when they process what ever backlog exists. We’ll see.

On a different note, *now* the percentage matters? Wasn’t it total body count that mattered just yesterday? (Not you, perhaps, but that has been the FluBro mantra.)

the powers that be have released their list of ‘essential workers’. Car dealers is a bit surprising, seeing how they’re discouraging realty open houses. Maybe more for the mechanics?

Case fatality rate or CFR is irrelevant. What matters is the percentage of people who die who are infected - much less than 1% due to the asymptomatic people.

It is only irrelevant to those who literally don't know what they're talking about. Those who do know what they're talking about consider CFR as one of several statistics, that together, give a relatively accurate picture of what's going on.
