A Chicago doctor on Friday issued some refreshing words of wisdom to frustrated and isolated Americans who are self-isolating: that if the mission is successful, it will feel like it was all for nothing.
Dr. Emily Landon, from University of Chicago medicine, joined Gov. J.B. Pritzker at a press conference to announce that the state of Illinois was going into shut-down aside from essential services.
She spoke animatedly about the challenges doctors and nurses are facing, and made a plea to Americans to heed the advice.
She also gave some stark warnings: that the people who need the beds after them, in two weeks time, need care, there will be no beds left.
Dr. Landon predicts that it will take at least another week for infection rates to slow down. It will take even longer for them to go down, and stop increasing, and even longer for them to stop.

'I want to send my sincere gratitude and support to all of the healthcare workers in Illinois and around the world.
'Despite doing our best to prepare for a respiratory epidemic we now find ourselves facing a brand new virus with too little information. Not enough PPE, changing protocols every single day and no second chances.
'All of us are united in our efforts and agree with this course of action. We all acknowledge that this is the only way forward.
'This virus is unforgiving. It spreads before you even know you've caught it. It tricks you into believing that it's nothing more than a little influenza.

This reminds me most of what our medical people are going through. Tremendous stress and working all day/night in close contact with everyone we are told to avoid!
I’m gaining a new level of appreciation for them.
The economy will come back to life, people can’t.
Let’s rock this thing and get through. There’s an economy to rebuild and we know how to do that.
Road trip? Why not? Pack an ice chest with food and water, self service gas and you are in isolation the whole way!

A friend of mine just told me about her son who is still going to work even though his wife and daughter are sick and have been tested. I was like really? Why the hell isn’t he staying at home and not spreading it.
You do not know what is coming down the road. The medical people see it first hand and have a better idea.

Nursing homes here are shut down and have been for two weeks. Deliveries to a vestibule, temperature checks for all staff.
They don’t have masks for the staff.
One aide will have a kid who sneaks out to play with a friend and infects his mother, and she will shed virus for five days before going symptomatic.

The son of our close friends is a physician at a nationally recognized hospital. A few short weeks ago he thought this was way overblown

At the clinic I work at that will be in another week.
My colleague was at work a couple of days ago and was told to take off his N95 mask and googles, “you’re scaring the patients”
He just stared at the boss and said “are you ordering me not to wear PPE?”
